The Romans made their way to Portugal during the Second Punic War, in the 3rd century BC. The colonization of the present-day Alentejo brought about the construction of several urban centres: Beja, once known as Pax Iulia, Évora as Ebora Liberalitas Iulia, and Ammaia as Civitas Ammaiensis. In addition to these urban centres, Roman colonists and those indigenous to the region lived in other settings, such as small rural settlements or extensive Roman villas.
Your tour guides are trained archaeologists and look forward to showing you some spectacular sites from Portugal’s Roman past.
