The Romans arrived in Portugal during the Second Punic War in the 3rd century BC. Their colonization of what is now Alentejo led to the establishment of several urban centers: Beja, formerly known as Pax Iulia, Évora as Ebora Liberalitas Iulia, and Ammaia as Civitas Ammaiensis. Besides these urban centers, Roman settlers and local inhabitants resided in various environments, such as small rural communities or large Roman villas.
The tour guides are experienced archaeologists eager to share with you the remarkable sites from Portugal’s Roman history.
