The absolute tour guide for El Yunque - Our tour in El Yunque with Iván was the highlight of my trip in Puerto Rico. We had a blast, and also learned so much. Iván is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Boriquen (PR) and El Yunque. He keeps his groups small, so we all feel like familia! A true bucket list experience- the hike was challenging at some times, but SO worth it- sliding down waterfalls, cliff jumping, rope swing. And he took amazing photos and video of everything- leave your phone in the car and enjoy being 100% present. We had a group of 7 ranging from people in their 20s to their 60s and Iván made us all feel comfortable and safe, and was there to help when we needed it. He was truly empowering, I would never have jumped off a cliff or slid down a waterfall without his guidance, but he made it seem like a piece of cake. We also received a great list of recommendations for other things to do. Thank you Iván for a lifelong memory!

10/10 Experience - Ivan was the best tour guide we could’ve asked for. Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and funny. While the hike could be slippery and challenging at points, he was always there if we needed assistance. Even though it was extremely busy when we went, we still all got a turn on the natural water slides, cliff jumps, and rope swing (if desired). He recommended not bringing any items we wouldn’t want to get wet but was kind enough to take photos and videos of everyone on his phone to share later! Truly a wonderful experience and could not recommend Ivan and this experience more.

This was excellent;... - This was excellent; highly recommend. It’s not easy but anyone in okay shape, including kids (I had a 6 and 8 year old) can do it. We felt challenged at times but in the best ways and the entire family had such a memorable time. Ivan was a fantastic guide.

Excellent experience - This hike was excellent. I went with my family, including my 6 and 8 year old kids. Ivan was such a fun, knowledgeable, and experienced guide. The experience was challenging at times but all doable and extremely fun and memorable for all of us, including the kids. I highly, highly recommend. Ivan was clearly known and respected by all the guides we passed. He gave everyone in our group an incredible time.

WOULD MOST DEFINITELY DO IT AGAIN! - Ivan was the ULTIMATE tour guide inside of the El Yunke National Forest! He was very easy to communicate with and was quick respond to my questions. He managed the crowd very well, and was ever present to help assist all who needed assistance. He made everything easy even when the path was a little challenging at times. His sense of humor was much appreciated and very entertaining the whole time. My grown sons would be happy to know that Ivantreated me so well as if they were there themselves. Thanks Ivan, I would certainly give you 100% satisfaction rating and will recommend you to EVERYONE I know who is traveling to San Juan! Fun, exhilarating and very informative at the same time! *I did the rope swing / drop into the water, and it was an awesome experience! Mary from Wisconsin!

A magical afternoon! - Ivan is a great guy and a great guide! We are three generations, and he was gracious and helpful to every one of us, no matter what age. The hike was definitely a challenge, but worth every muddy, slippery step. :-) Highly recommended!

Tour isn’t for everyone but if you’re going to do a tour, pick this one - A caveat: if you want a chill day in nature, this is not it. If that’s the case, I would recommend going to El Yunque on your own. This tour is best for thrill seekers. If that suits you, then you should pick this tour! All of the tours take the same route so it’s really your guide who makes the experience. Our guide Migael was great, he was calm and encouraging. Most of us didn't quite realize what we were signing up for and he got everyone in our group through each part of the adventure with his guidance and reassurance. You will run into a bunch of your groups and I was eavesdropping and just kept thinking how lucky we were to have Migael instead of the other tour guides we encountered. We all ended up having an amazing time even though we were outside our comfort zone. Migael even helped us find someone to change our tire when we went back to the rental car and realized it was flat. He was amazing, highly recommend!

More challenging than the description - El Yunque is a delight not to be missed and Miguel was an awesome guide. My rating is more a reflection of the disconnect between my expectations and the actual experience. I am overweight with two knee replacements, so I should have been more mindful about the type of excursion I booked. I am not crippled. In fact, I finished a two tank dive and kayaking into the bio bay the day before. I walked all over Old San Juan for four hours the day before that. I believe I am “moderately fit” as the description says. But even my very fit companions on this hike said it was one of the most difficult hikes they had ever done. The “trail” is very muddy, making the going very slippery. If it wasn’t for my fellow hikers helping me, I wouldn’t have been able to get to our first stop. It was a breathtaking natural spring pool, where Miguel told me to rest while the others continued to the waterslide. I had a beautiful, relaxing swim in the cool waters, and enjoyed watching people diving from a cliff and jumping from a rope swing. I thought I would get a turn to do both when my group returned, and was able to do the rope swing. The trip back was not as difficult, but still challenging. I think gravity helped. A special “shout out” to Steven from New York who held my hand and guided me safely through the entire journey, as well as all the others who cheered me on. Everyone was patient and helpful. After going to Luquillo beach for the rest of the day, I returned to my room and discovered my big toe was purple and swollen. So, if you want, here’s my advice. Wear shoes that are made for hiking, not water shoes. Sneakers are probably not going to give enough grip, although most everyone was wearing them. Wear what you’re going to swim in. We were told to leave our backpacks behind. Hydrate before you go. We didn’t have any water until we got back to the parking lot. Use sunscreen but don’t use bug spray, it kills the little organisms in the water. And make sure you are up for a challenge that includes scrambling over rocks and roots, and walking across slippery rocks in rivers. If that’s your idea of fun, you will probably give this five stars.
