Trip highlight - This was the most memorable highlights of our trip to PR! Seeing the micro-organisms glow at night was spectacular! We forgot our bug spray, and were thrilled that the gift shop sold it. A must have for this trip.

One Amazing Experience / Bioluminescent Bay Fajardo - This is a must do if you are in the area. We have done the Parquera as well, but this one with kayaking thru the mangroves, and spending time on the bay is transcendent. My wife and I (fifties) and our teenage son (16) found it doable and each of us was overwhelmed by the experience. The staff; especially Michie and Joe made sure to enhance the experience with their passion, experience and professionalism. Yes, they do the tour in English, but also in Spanish so nothing is lost. They do 2 tours, we did the 6pm tour and got to see the sunset on the lake and the mangroves prior to darkness. And they make sure you see the bio luminescent organisms!!! a guarantee not avail in La Parquera

Awesome spot - Great tour guides and the bio bay was awesome. Try to schedule around a new moon so it’s darkest in the sky.

BEST company to go on this adventure! - BEST group for this adventure. It was an especially dark night because of the cloud coverage and waxing crescent moon and our guides were absolutely terrific - well organized, experienced and knowledgeable (unlike the other disorganized, unsafe, dangerous and chaotic groups). Kayaking through the mangroves in the pitch black and arriving at the bay felt like we were in Pirates of the Caribbean. The bioluminescence was beautiful and the kayak adventure was really fun and unique. The guides went above and beyond for my aging parents - Joe towed my parents the entire time! He was so kind, energetic and lovely about it all. Also, my husband has difficulties with his legs and they were fantastic and helped him get in and out of the kayak with no problems. My teenage daughters had a blast with Emily and the other male guide (so sorry I forgot his name) who was funny and fun and showed us a jelly fish from the bay. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this adventure with THIS group!

Easy and Fun - worth it even under a full moon! - Directions were easy. Several cool restaurants are there in the park-like setting. We were there on a Saturday and glad we came early to find parking. Although it was 81 degrees at 8:30 p.m., the wind made it colder than normal, so we ran over to a little shop by the restaurants and bought a long-sleeved shirt, which made the evening perfect. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly at check-in. Chris led a quick and easy-to-understand orientation, introduced the other guides and gave an overview of safety and details of the tour. Our group of about 12 double kayaks (24 people) seemed to have a nice range from very experienced to novice and everyone made it just fine. The 10-minute open bay kayaking wasn’t bad even though it was windy, and once we got into the mangroves the winds were gone and we settled in for the longest segment of the 90-minute tour. Although the full moon hindered the bioluminescence segment, it made kayaking through the mangroves almost dream-like. To counter the glow of the moon, Chris and the team simply provided us with a tarp to block out any light and we could see the luminated water by splashing it on or into our kayak and splashing it around there to see it first-hand. For the price, we thought the whole experience was quite unique and enjoyable.

Park early and hang out - Pure Adventure Co. had great guides. Don’t be put off by the weigh in, they explained their reasoning to me and it made sense. The bio-algae was spectacular and the kayaking was a fun adventure! Agree with others- groups are too big. Strongly suggest getting there early to park and wander the small public park. Not much to do, but a decent souvenirs shop and delicious food at El Pescadero! Go for dinner at 6 then hang around for your departure.

Not like the pics show - I kept hearing how amazing this tour was and I was disappointed. The advertising shows waves of bioluminescent water rolling in, which we didn't see. The phenomenon happens when you put your hand in the water and move it around. Maybe we were there on a bad night. Definitely cool and once in a lifetime to see, but I wouldn't have gone if I knew that. The tour groups are very organized and give directions, including stay single file in the kayaks, which people do not listen to. It is a very physical trip down the 1.5 mile mangrove river to the bay. You have to be in good physical condition. The back rower is always working. The front rower can help. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone with back problems. Sitting in that position for that long wears on your back and hips. You also get people who do not know how to slow down, stop, or steer, so they get out of control. We were side swiped into the edges of the mangrove forest quite a few times by other kayaks. Luckily we weren't hurt and were able to get out. It was very frustrating though. Traveling down the mangrove river in the dark was cool! Be sure to wear appropriate clothes...you will get soaked from the waist down and it is warm, especially rowing for that long, so I would wear short sleeves. Douse yourself down with plenty of bug spray.

Use another company for this type of tour - We recently completed a night-time kayak trip w/Peniel and it was a mess. With this company, you go into a kayak and pretty much paddle completely in the dark in a single-file line through a narrow mangrove lane. B/C there are no lights on the kayaks, you have to follow the kayak in front of you which has a small, barely visible glow ring on it (some of the kayaks were missing them as well!) and the teenager tour guides have nothing organized and just yell at the participants to "stay to the right" where there is a traffic jam of companies taking people out to the bay and in at the same time. So, you can't see if you are going to literally run into another kayaker, or the mangrove trees. Once in the bay, a very UN-funny and awkward tour guide roped us all together, and then started harassing us because we didn't know her name (she had not even told us!) and then proceeded to provide UN-helpful information about the bay. It was super awkward. This person kept asking if there were questions but it was all silence as we weren't on the tour to ask questions... we were there to see the bio-organisms light up. While the trip itself was somewhat interesting (to see the bioluminescent organisms), Peniel was disorganized and on the way back into the dock area, there was ZERO communications between this company and the other 10 kayak companies in this compound and kayakers coming in/out were just running into each other in the corridor from the dock to the bay. It was very dangerous and disorganized, and my kids anxiety levels went through the roof as kayaking in the dark in a busy/small lane wasn't fun and people could have been easily hurt. I strongly recommend to anyone considering the Fajardo bioluminescent kayaking to avoid Peniel and make sure to pick a different company that distributes life jackets that have small orange lights on them as it will make a big difference in your experience
