The journey will take us to the northern part of the island. After crossing the border control, the group will explore Salamis, established by Teucer in 1180 BC, shortly after his return from the Trojan War. The itinerary includes visits to the theater, the spa, and the gym. This is the birthplace and site of martyrdom of St. Barnabas, who accompanied St. Paul on his travels through Cyprus. The tour will then proceed to the medieval city of Famagusta, where the impressive walls reflect the city’s historic grandeur and its need for defense against enemy attacks.
The next stop is the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, now the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque, where many rulers of Cyprus and Jerusalem were crowned during the Lusignan period. Participants will have the chance to stroll through Famagusta’s narrow streets and view the citadel and Othello’s tower from the outside.
The excursion concludes with a walk through the streets of Varosha, known as Ghost Town following the 1974 conflict.
