- Basilica Cistern - Constructed during the reign of Justinian I in the 6th century to supply water, it was significantly expanded by Emperor Justinian. Beneath the streets and homes of Istanbul lie over 60 underground cisterns. Within the Basilica Cistern, you’ll encounter the mythological Medusa statues dating back to the 4th century.

Interesting history. Knowledgeable guide. Great experience. - A last minute email request for a tour of Basilica Cistern and Hagia Sophia the next day was responded to quickly.
Both tours allowed for skip the line entry.
Nuri was very informative and knowledgeable, friendly and a great guide.

Great tour in the cistern - Great tour with Nuri ! We didn’t need to queue up at all so had a very relaxed experience. Nuri pointed out and explained many interesting details. The tour covered the architecture as well as the history of the cistern. We had enough time to enjoy the spectacular scenery and take pictures too.
The experience wouldn’t have been as enjoyable without the tour, I am very glad we took it and I highly recommmend it !
