Highlights

Fes ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Middle Atlas Mountains ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Merzouga desert

Medina of Fez - Our 3-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour begins by gathering all travelers at a designated spot in the Medina of Fez.

Ifrane - Our first stop is Ifrane, often referred to as the Switzerland of Morocco due to its chalet-style houses. We’ll take a brief walk here. The city was founded by the French in 1928 as a retreat from the Sahara’s heat.

Azrou Cedar Forest - After Ifrane, we continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains, pausing in a Cedar forest where we might spot monkeys native to the region.

Aoufous - Following lunch at a local restaurant, we proceed to Merzouga, stopping along the way for a panoramic view of a palm-filled Oasis.

Merzouga - Arriving in Merzouga in the afternoon, you’ll embark on a camel ride across vast sand dunes to your luxury desert camp, a journey of about an hour and 40 minutes. You’ll pause atop a high dune to witness a serene sunset over the Erg Chebbi dunes. Alternatively, you can reach the camp by 4x4 vehicle (included in the price). Upon arrival, the staff will show you to your private tents. After a delightful dinner, enjoy sitting around a campfire with traditional Berber music and drumming. End the night by stargazing before heading to bed.

Merzouga desert ⇢ Rissani ⇢ Todra Gorges ⇢ Dades Gorges

Merzouga - An early rise is recommended to catch a stunning sunrise. After a delicious breakfast at the camp, you can choose to leave by camel or 4x4 car. Additionally, you can opt for quad biking or buggy driving (extra cost). Inform your guide the night before if interested.

Souqs of Rissani - If it’s Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday, we’ll visit Rissani to experience a traditional Moroccan souk, which operates only on these days. The city is also the origin of Morocco’s current ruling family.

Todgha Gorge - After exploring Rissani, we head to Todra Canyon, Morocco’s deepest canyon with cliffs over 300 meters high. We’ll take a walk through this impressive canyon before moving on to our final destination of the day.

Dades Gorges - Arriving in Dades Gorges in the afternoon, we’ll first visit the unique rock formations known as monkey fingers, followed by a drive to a panoramic viewpoint of the Gorges.

Dades Gorges ⇢ Ouarzazate ⇢ Ait Ben Haddou ⇢ High Atlas Mountains ⇢ Marrakech

Dades Gorges - After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, we drive to Ouarzazate, passing through Kelaat Mgouna, famous for its roses. If traveling in spring, we’ll stop in a rose-filled valley.

Ouarzazate - Known as the Hollywood of Africa and the gateway to the Sahara, Ouarzazate is home to the Atlas Studio, the world’s largest by land area. Many films and TV shows, including Aladdin, Vikings, and Prison Break, have been filmed here. You can take photos outside or opt for an inside tour (additional cost and time required). Next, we’ll explore the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah.

Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou - Our guide will lead you through this historic Kasbah, explaining its fascinating past. This fortified village is a prime example of Moroccan architecture and was a caravanserai on ancient trade routes. It has been featured in numerous films and TV shows, such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones.

High Atlas Mountains - After visiting the Kasbah, we drive over the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech, with stops for breathtaking views along the way.

Marrakech - We arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon and drop you off at the nearest accessible point to your Hotel/Riad, marking the end of your Fes to Marrakech desert tour.

Most magical, mythical epic journey we've ever done across deserts, gorges, High Atlas mountains, historic kasbahs - The service and team, from Brahim the travel manager, Hassan the driver, all the drivers, camel guide, staff in all hotels and the choices of hotels and rest / restaurant stops are wonderful. You've created an amazing tour! This 3 day tour was one of the best holidays we've ever had. Absolutely magical! The choices of places to visit, the quality of the hotels and the excellent, comfortable vehicle, Hassan the excellent driver, all the staff in the accommodations along the journey, and the epic places of Morocco themselves made this the best, most spectacular, fulfilling experience imaginable. Thank you so much again for creating this profound experience of wonder, beauty, awe and delight. I've told all my friends about it and hope next year to come back with some of them and my family to experience this holiday with your company again. And, how wonderful that we start in one city (Fes) and finish in another (Marrakech) so we don't have to backtrack or figure out travel from one city to the other. And you can start and finish from either. So clever !

Unforgettable 3 days adventure - We are very grateful for this unique experience and our ‘chief pilot’ Ismail made sure to make these moments unforgettable. Everything was well orchestrated from our pick-up at our Riad in Fes to our drop off at our final destination in Marrakesh. Ismail has a true passion for tourism and was always eager to show us and tell us about his culture. The private nature of this tour facilitated many interesting conversations on the Moroccan history and shared many laughs along our way. The masterpiece of our journey was certainly the desert portion. We thought a lot about what our desert experience would be like but in the end of was more than we could have ever dreamed of. Ismail was generous to share insights into what life in the desert is like, showing us where he grew up and still lives. He dropped us off to meet our camel guide and we had a private camel ride to the desert camp at sunset, it was pure magic. We had ample time to let in all in. Our camel guide was generous enough to allow us to get off our rides for a brief walk and picture session in the desert at sunset. We couldn’t resist repeating the experience the next morning. The drive to the Dades Valley was also incredible and Ismail’s knowledge of the region made it even more unique. We can’t thank him and the people we met during our journey enough for an unforgettable three days.

Marvelous experience with MFT - The 3 day private tour from Fes to Marrakech was outstanding in every aspect. During the research phase, Brahim was prompt to respond to various questions as I narrowed down the best option. It seemed like he was online during all hours of the day (unsure when he sleeps!!), providing excellent customer service. To be honest, this level of attention not only exceeded that of any other tour operator, but also greatly contributed to me selecting MFT for this adventure. My tour guide/driver, Mohamed, was absolutely wonderful. As a solo female traveler, I felt completely comfortable and know that he was looking after me at all times. Mohamed speaks English (and Spanish) very well. We had interesting conversations throughout the three days and he shared loads of information about the Berber culture & customs. I learned a lot about his life too - rather amazing! He is a safe driver (knows the police tricks!), selected different types of places for lunch, has a warm and friendly disposition and overall made my trip to Morocco memorable. I highly recommend MFT!

Spectacular tour from Fes to Marrakech - Fantastic desert excursion from Fes to Marrakech! Fantastic guides, beautiful accommodations and amazing sights. I recommend booking the luxury accommodations. The upgrade is well worth the price for the private luxury rooms and smaller group size. Our return driver, Imed (From the desert) really went the extra mile since we had a few in our group that were not on the luxury tour. He had to drive to different hotels to accommodate all of us. He was just so wonderful! He also took us to some incredible Kasbahs and view points! Truly a tour we will always remember.

Great tour and driver with once in a lifetime experiences and really good food - We were two couples traveling together and purchased the 3 day desert tour from Fez to Marrakesh before arrival on the website. Communication with the office manager, Brahim Azeroual was always responsive and he answered all our questions. Our driver, Hassan Bahddou, picked us up on time at our hotel in Fez and quickly got all our bags loaded in our 2022 (8 person) Mercedes Van, which was very comfortable for our entire trip. Over the three days we were in the van for about 17-18 total hours, so having a good vehicle was extremely nice and Hasan went out of his way to drive for our comfort, by slowing down for bumps and obeying the posted speed limits. He also planned stops for attractions, bathroom breaks and gave us optional stops to see local items if we wanted to purchase anything. I really enjoyed that we did not have to go through a hard sells pitch for something we did not have any interest in buying or seeing. Hassan also stopped for lunch breaks. First two days we stopped at places that served traditional food, meat skewers and Tangine meals that were tasty and during our stops paid about 100 dhms a person for the meal and 10-15 dhms for a drink of soda or water. Last lunch stop had Pizza/hamburgers which we split 2 pizzas for 60 dhms each and same costs for soda/ water. We also got a couple ice creams for 30 dhms each. Make sure to have cash as most places don’t use a credit card. Once we found this out Hassan was great about finding an ATM for us to use. Our lodging included the Africa Camp. Upon arrival at the stop, expect that you will be loaded in a 4x4 vehicle to go through the sand to get to the camels, your luggage will be taken out of the van and stay there to be picked up and taken to camp for when you arrive later and your driver will depart and will link up the following morning at the same drop off location. Although we had kept our passports and important items on our person, it was nice to see our luggage safely in camp with us, upon arrival later that night. Also since you won’t eat till after the sunset for us in late May this was around 9 pm. The tents were luxurious and comfortable and both dinner and breakfast had multiple courses, tasty and filling. The abundant staff also went out of their way to make sure you had an enjoyable stay. The camel ride to a sand dune (in the Sahara desert), to watch the sunset was a once in a lifetime event and was great. Our second night we stayed at the hotel Riad Gabsi Dades. This hotel sat on a hill overlooking the “Monkey Fingers” canyon that had a pool in the outdoor garden where you will have tea, upon arrival and be served breakfast the following morning. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food here was the best we had on the entire tour. Dinner was 6 tasty courses and breakfast also had plenty of options all of which were amazing. Upon arrival at Marrakesh we opted to stay at a Riad inside the Medina walls. Unbeknownst to me, cars are not allowed into the Medina after about midday, but Hassan arranged a porter for us, who took our luggage and us straight to our Riad/hotel. If we were able to do this again, I would definitely want to use Fabulous Morocco Tours and have Hassan as our driver. Both we highly recommend. Both lodging options were also comfortable and inviting. We would request, when booking, for an earlier meal in the Dades, since we like to eat earlier than normal in Morocco and tangine meals take a little longer to prepare. It was also much nicer, for us, to have the extra room in the van and added flexibility with the private tour.

A must do in Morocco - We had an amazing time and saw and learned so much about Morocco. Our driver was Yidir and we loved him. He was clear during the stops, knew a lot about country, had great music to play and was just a nice chatty guy. The Morocco desert tour from Fes to Marrakech was definitely the highlight of our 10 day trip in Morocco, I recommend it to anyone. The contact with fabulous travel was good and on point. They were also honest. The group we had was small, but it was nice to have some fun company. The stay in the dessert will forever be in our memories. We definitely loved our trip and we would do it again.
