- Montespertoli - The earliest records of the farm date back to the late 15th century, during the Renaissance, when Florence was under the rule of the Medici dynasty, led by Lorenzo il Magnifico. Around this time, the influential Capponi family established the farm, located about 25 km from Florence in a hilly area overlooking the gentle slopes of Chianti. This elevated position inspired the name “Poggio Capponi” (Capponi Hill), which has defined the farm and its surrounding lands since its construction. In the 1930s, Giuseppe Rousseau Colzi, a Florentine industrialist, acquired the property.
The farm has a dual character, both agricultural and ideal for vacation. Since its inception, it has been a place for cultivating vines, olive trees, and wheat. For generations, farming families have worked this land. In the last century, the production of wine and olive oil has taken precedence and continues to thrive today.
- Barberino Val d’Elsa - This family property has been owned by the Mugnaini family since the early 1950s, when Paolo Mugnaini purchased the farm. Le Masse has developed through the dynamic growth of the family.
Christiane, a painter from Berlin, brought an artistic touch to the wine farm, complementing her husband Alberto, a Tuscan dedicated to preserving traditional peasant practices. This new chapter began in 2006 and presented a challenge for a company rooted in the 1960s to evolve into a contemporary business. The current focus centers on engaging in a dialogue with nature and listening to the unique landscape that has been discovered and is meant to be preserved over time. Le Masse has evolved into a hub for research, dialogue, and connection, respecting the present while valuing the future.
The heart of the winery, along with the family home, is located just outside the town of Barberino Val d’Elsa, where part of the vineyards, the winery, and the olive groves are situated.
