- Gallerie Degli Uffizi - Embark on a journey through art history at the Uffizi Gallery! Originally housing offices for the powerful Medici family, it now showcases their incredible art collection.
We’ll begin with Anna Maria Luisa de Medici, the last Medici heir, who generously donated the family’s treasures. As we climb the grand staircase, learn about the building’s architecture and hidden stories behind the masterpieces.
The first hall features early Renaissance works by Giotto, Cimabue, and Duccio. Prepare to be mesmerized by Botticelli’s iconic Venus, da Vinci’s breathtaking Annunciation, and Michelangelo’s sole panel painting!
Our expert guide will bring these artists and their works to life, providing fascinating details and anecdotes. In just one and half hours, you’ll gain a deep appreciation for the Uffizi’s highlights, leaving you free to revisit any favorites later.
- Piazza del Duomo - Piazza del Duomo is located in the heart of the historic center of Florence. It is one of the most visited places in the world and in Florence is the most visited area of the city. From the point of the meeting, the guide will give an insight into the history of this marvelous piece of art standing right in front of you.
- Museo dell’Opera del Duomo - Initially, the guide will talk your way to the Museo dell’ Opera del Duomo, which commits to the conservation of the dome and other artworks of great masterpieces of Michelangelo, Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Luca Della Robbia, Arnolfo di Cambio, and many others.
-
Campanile di Giotto - Afterward, as you walk through the Piazza, you’ll catch glimpses of the red dome that was completed in 1436 by Filippo Brunelleschi and was once known as the largest building in Medieval Europe.
After an interesting explanation of this showstopper, your next stop will be the showpieces of the Florentine Gothic architecture, Giotto’s Bell Tower standing adjacent to the Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore - Battistero di San Giovanni - Finally, you’ll enter through the “Gates of Paradise” to the Baptistery of Saint John which stands across from the Duomo Cathedral. You will be guided on the technical and artistic point of view of architecture before the tour concludes.
The tour takes about an hour and a half, the perfect amount to see the highlights of Piazza Della Duomo.
-
Brunelleschi’s dome - Cupola which was designed and built by Filippo Brunelleschi has tight corridors to climb your way up (and down). This is because the workmen who built the cathedral for maintenance were never thought of as being open to the public.
On the dome’s interior, you can admire Giorgio Vasari’s frescoes of the Last Judgment (1572-9) up close with an interesting explanation of the frescoes on your way up to the top. Look down and on the base, just above the drum, you’ll see that Baccio D’Angelo began adding a balcony in 1507 and how one of the eight sides was unfinished, and to this day the other seven sides remain rough brick!
Once you climb to the top of the Cupola, you will be enchanted by the panoramic view of the Florence city in front of your eyes.
After you visit the Cupola with your pre-reserved timed ticket, you have the chance to also visit the interior of the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, and Santa Reparata and to climb Giotto’s Bell Tower at your own pace and time.
