- The Baptistery of St. John - Discover the main attractions on this extensive tour of the Duomo Complex in Florence. This tour allows you to thoroughly explore all aspects of the Duomo Complex. After meeting our guide, you’ll be taken on a tour of the Piazza del Duomo, where you’ll learn about this captivating religious center. Following a comprehensive view of the Duomo from all sides of the square, you’ll enter the octagonal Baptistery of St. John. The guide will highlight the Baptistery’s renowned golden mosaic ceiling and the impressive bronze doors known as the Gates of Paradise.
- Opera del Duomo Museum - Next, you’ll visit the splendid Duomo Museum in Florence, which houses over 700 masterpieces from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, including Michelangelo’s Pietà Bandini. The museum also features remarkable works like the Baptistery gates, Donatello’s sculptures, and the original wooden scaffolding of the dome. The guide will showcase some of the most famous artworks by Michelangelo and Donatello. As the tour concludes, your guide will drop you off at the entrance to the Cupola Dome. The only way to see the inside of the dome up close and enjoy the extraordinary view of Florence is to climb its 463 steps (there is no elevator).
- Brunelleschi’s dome - The Cupola, designed and built by Filippo Brunelleschi, features narrow corridors for the climb up and down. These corridors were originally intended for the workmen who built the cathedral and were not meant for public access. Inside the dome, you can closely admire Giorgio Vasari’s frescoes of the Last Judgment (1572-9) with detailed explanations as you ascend. Looking down, just above the drum, you’ll notice Baccio D’Angelo’s unfinished balcony from 1507, with seven of the eight sides still in rough brick. Upon reaching the top of the Cupola, you’ll be captivated by the panoramic view of Florence. After visiting the Cupola with your pre-reserved timed ticket, you can also explore the interior of the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, Santa Reparata, and climb Giotto’s Bell Tower at your own pace.
- Piazza della Repubblica - At the meeting point, the guide will provide insights into the history of this Renaissance city and how the Renaissance movement transformed Florence and eventually the rest of Europe. The tour begins at Piazza Della Republica, the main square of Florence, marking the city’s center. After a brief history of Piazza Republica and its evolution, you’ll proceed to the stunning Piazza Della Duomo, a masterpiece by Filippo Brunelleschi, Giotto, Arnolfo, and Francesco Talenti.
- Piazza del Duomo - Walking past Duomo Square, the guide will lead you through Florence’s historic buildings and landmarks to Palazzo Vecchio, where Michelangelo’s David (the original is in the Galleria dell’Accademia) stands as a symbol of the Republic’s defiance against the Medici tyranny.
- Ponte Vecchio - Continuing past Palazzo Vecchio, the guide will discuss the Uffizi Gallery, one of the world’s greatest museums, before reaching Florence’s most famous old bridge, the “Ponte Vecchio.”
- Palazzo Pitti - The next stop is Palazzo Pitti, a grand palace and one of Florence’s largest architectural monuments, originally the residence of the Pitti family and later the Medici.
- Florence - Finally, the guide will talk about the artists, architects, thinkers, and political figures who spearheaded the Renaissance in Florence, concluding the tour at “La Strega Nocciola” for a complimentary gelato. The tour lasts about an hour and a half, providing ample time to appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of Florence.
