Highlights
  • Piazza del Duomo - Piazza del Duomo is located in the heart of the historic center of Florence. It is dominated by the mass of the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and related buildings such as Giotto’s bell tower and the baptistery of San Giovanni.
  • The Baptistery of St. John - The baptistery of San Giovanni Battista is a famous religious building in Florence, located in the Piazza San Giovanni of the same name, in front of the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Dedicated to the patron saint of the city, it was for centuries the place where Florentines obtained baptism and was the place of investiture of knights and poets (Dante was also baptized here).

You will see the Gates of Paradise, the main gate of the Baptistry. The Porta del Paradiso, in Italian, was created by Florentine goldsmith and sculptor Lorenzo Ghiberti between 1425 and 1452 and installed in the eastern portal of the Baptistery.
The Gates have been praised by generations of artists and art historians for their compelling portrayal of scenes from the Old Testament.
Over time, the seventeen-foot-tall, three-ton bronze doors became an icon of Renaissance, one of the most famous works of art in the world.

  • Campanile di Giotto - Giotto’s bell tower is the bell tower of Santa Maria del Fiore, the cathedral of Florence, and is located in Piazza del Duomo.
  • Loggia del Bigallo - The “Loggia del Bigallo,” a late Gothic structure associated with fraternities involved in community service, and the “misericordia,” the world’s oldest brotherhood for medical care and the oldest continuously operating private voluntary organization, will also be discussed by your knowledgeable guide.

The building is one of the most singular and important in the city, both for the history it documents and for its structure and decoration, in which sculpture, painting and ironwork combine with equal dignity to determine a work with a unitary character.

  • Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore - The metropolitan cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, commonly known as the cathedral of Florence, is the main Florentine church, symbol of the city and one of the most famous in Italy; when it was completed, in the 15th century, it was the largest church in the world, and can still boast the absolute primacy of the largest masonry dome today. It stands on the foundations of the ancient cathedral of Florence, the church of Santa Reparata, in the place that has hosted buildings of worship since Roman times.
  • Cupola del Brunelleschi - The magic continues as you ascend Brunelleschi’s Dome, the city’s emblem and the largest of its kind in the world (with skip the queue Florence Duomo tickets). The inside of the dome is covered in 3600 square meters of paintings, making it the biggest painted surface in the entire globe. You will get a close-up look at these frescoes as your guide explains and fascinatingly comments on them, bringing them to life right before your eyes. From a height, you will be able to enjoy an amazing perspective of the interior of the dome. As you ascend the last section and walk through the two shells to observe the brickwork up close, you will be better able to appreciate the ingenuity that went into the construction.

Breathtaking Views and Rich History at the Florence Duomo! - My wife and I along with our 3 kids (18, 16, 14) recently participated in the Florence Duomo Tour with Dome Climb, and it was an unforgettable experience! The tour was incredibly well-organized, and Becky, our guide was both knowledgeable and engaging, providing fascinating insights into the history and architecture of the Duomo. The highlight of the tour was definitely the dome climb. The ascent was a bit challenging, with narrow staircases and quite a few steps, but it was absolutely worth it. Reaching the top, we were rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Florence. Seeing the city from this vantage point was truly breathtaking and offered a unique perspective that you can't get anywhere else. While we were experiencing the beautiful view, Becky took the time to take family pictures for us and gave us recommendations on where to take in a sunset view of the city, as well as other highlights not to miss out on. Once we entered the cathedral, Becky explained the intricate details of the frescoes, which adorn the interior of the dome. The artwork was magnificent and hearing about the stories and techniques behind them added so much depth to the experience. We got lost in Becky's story telling and found ourselves back in time in Florence with the ideas of visionaries - it was absolutely amazing. Booking the tour was straightforward, and the meeting point was easy to find. The entire process, from start to finish, was smooth and well-managed. I appreciated how Becky personalized the tour for the kids, making it engaging, and interesting. Overall, I highly recommend the Florence Duomo Tour with Dome Climb. It’s a must-do when in Florence, providing a perfect blend of physical activity, historical education, and awe-inspiring views. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to explore one of Florence’s most iconic landmarks!

Incredible Duomo - This was one worth the money trip. Our local guide, Becky from Walkabout tours was not just knowledgeable but also very friendly and patient. She contacted us couple of days before the tour giving us all the details of meeting point and contact information in case of any questions. She also informed us of some local events because of which she suggested starting our tour 30 minutes before the scheduled time. This turned out to be very advantageous as we were up there early beating both the heat and the crowd. The climb up was intimidating and humbling. The view from the top was incredible and it was worth the effort. The tour of the museum was very informative and enjoyable. Becky gave us just the right amount of information and also gave the interpretation of the art work there! We spent more time in the museum after the end of the tour. Overall very good experience. Highly recommend it. I must add that the experience was because of the Walkabout Tours.

Enjoyable and informative - Becky was a wonderful guide. We met right outside the Duomo. She gave us the history before entering the museum so we knew what we were seeing. She then elaborated and pointed out things once inside. When we reached the top of the Dome, which was well worth the climb, Becky gave us time to walk around on our own and take in the breath taking views. She took pictures for us and then pointed out the churches, squares, Synagogue, and other areas that we should explore on our own over the next few days and told the history behind those points of interest. Felt as if we were touring with a good friend who was a history buff. Becky’s in depth knowledge and enthusiasm made our tour that much more informative and enjoyable. Definitely a 5 star experience. Well worth the price and time. This is a must do while in Florence.
