Additional Information

When touring Florence, a stop at the Uffizi Gallery is a must. It ranks among the globe’s most renowned art museums, boasting works by Botticelli, Michelangelo, da Vinci, among others. Particularly noteworthy are Botticelli’s ‘The Spring’ and ‘The Birth of Venus’, epitomes of beauty and spiritual purity.

Venture inside the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral to witness a treasure trove of artistic wonders. A well-informed guide will bring your attention to the marble choir by Bandinelli, Paolo Uccello’s mysterious clock, and the intricate marble mosaics on the ground. As you look above, the richly decorated interior of the Dome, completely adorned with Vasari’s frescoes, unveils itself. The famous Dome by Brunelleschi stands symbolically as a unique specimen of the Renaissance architectural genius.

Nearby, pay a visit to the Museo della Misericordia. Find your way to the fourth floor for a breathtaking view of Cathedral Square and its landmarks - a perfect spot for snapping some photos. Duomo Dream - Our tour guide for the Duomo tour was excellent. She had a wealth of knowledge about the cathedral and the people who run it. All of her communications were clear and very informative. We also had the bonus of the church being closed to the public on the day of our tour (guided tours were allowed entry) so it made it even nicer. Our guide for the Uffizi Gallery was also very knowledgeable about the gallery and all of the art inside. We had to cut our portion of the tour short due to scheduling conflicts on our side but we she showed us was excellent.

We were extremely lucky with our choice... -
We were extremely lucky with our choice of this trip. We were there during the holidays. As a result, my family was the only one signed up. So we had a private tour and it was amazing. The guide had lived in Florence her entire life and had a wealth of knowledge to share. The tour started in the Baptistery. We were told how the building came to be, how the ceremonies were performed and how the baptisms are still held in the building today.

The tour then moved to the square and we learned about the history of some of the surrounding buildings and the previous tenants in those buildings. The tour then moved to the museum where we were able to see a lot of original artifacts from the area. Most interesting to us were the original Dome scale models presented over 600 years ago.

The tour concluded with a skip-the-queue ticket to climb to the top of the Duomo. Once up to, the views are spectacular. the climb to get to the top is not for the faint of heart. It is a spiral of mostly original steps that are narrow and steep. But for those that choose, the reward is definitely worth it.

Florence is incredibly crowed and this... -
Florence is incredibly crowed and this tour was a perfect way to see these historical sites without waiting in queues. The baptistery ceiling of mosaics was very impressive. Cathedral highlight was the crypt with remains of the original small church underneath. The museum was full of statues, artwork and numerous artifacts both original and replicas with the most impressive being the original baptistery gates - must see. Very knowledgeable guide enhanced our experienced.

Duomo and Uffizi Well worth seeing - The guide who took us around duomo was fantastic. She was knowledgeable enthusiastic and friendly with a good sense of humour. Excellent morning. Guide around Ufizi was very good but guide less friendly and walked off at speed without checking in on group. Seemed to be on tight schedule and whizzed around gallery. We were told to arrive 30 mins before duomo tour and did so but were standing alone for 15-20 mins until rep came. Other people arrived after this. Due to this we were not so early for afternoon tour (15 mins) and were told we were late!!! Please Make your minds up!
