- Galleria dell’Accademia - The tour includes a visit to the Academy Gallery, home to Michelangelo’s renowned sculpture, David. In addition to David, the gallery features other sculptures and an extensive collection of paintings by Florentine artists.
- Duomo - Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore - The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (viewed from outside), with its stunning dome designed by Brunelleschi, serves as Florence’s cathedral. Initiated in 1296 in Gothic style by Arnolfo di Cambio, it was structurally completed in 1436 with Brunelleschi’s dome. The basilica’s exterior is adorned with polychrome marble panels in green and pink, bordered by white, and features an intricate 19th-century Gothic Revival façade by Emilio De Fabris.
- Battistero di San Giovanni - The Baptistery of San Giovanni (viewed from outside) is situated in Piazza Duomo, opposite the Cathedral of S. Maria del Fiore, and is one of Florence’s most significant monuments. Its origins are uncertain, but it is believed to have been constructed on the ruins of an ancient Roman temple dedicated to the God Mars around the 4th-5th century AD. The first recorded mention dates back to 897 when it was described as a basilica. In 1128, it officially became the city’s baptistery, where baptismal rites were conducted. Named after the city’s patron saint, the baptistery features an octagonal plan, topped by a dome with eight segments covered externally by a pyramid roof. The building’s exterior is decorated with white Carrara marble and green Prato marble, typical of Florentine Romanesque architecture.
- Campanile di Giotto - Adjacent to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is the Bell Tower designed by Giotto (viewed from outside). Giotto’s Bell Tower is a magnificent structure and a masterpiece of Italian Gothic architecture. The Bell Tower has a square base measuring approximately 15 meters per side, with corner reinforcements extending to the horizontal cantilevered crown at a height of 84.7 meters.
- Piazza della Signoria - Piazza della Signoria has been the heart of Florence’s political life since the 14th century. The square has witnessed significant historical events and triumphs, such as the Medici’s return in 1530. The renowned sculptures in Piazza della Signoria reflect Florence’s political history. Michelangelo’s David (the original is in the Accademia Gallery) was placed in front of Palazzo Vecchio to symbolize the power of the Florentine Republic against Medici tyranny. Hercules and Cacus (1534) by Bandinelli represents the family’s physical strength.
- Ponte Vecchio - Constructed near a Roman-era crossing, the Ponte Vecchio was the sole bridge spanning the Arno in Florence until 1218. Above Ponte Vecchio, you can view a section of the stunning Vasari Corridor. Built in 1565 by Giorgio Vasari, this corridor runs just above the goldsmith shops lining the bridge. Commissioned by the Medici, it allowed them to travel from Palazzo Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti safely, without traversing Florence’s streets. During the Corridor’s construction, butchers’ shops occupied Ponte Vecchio, likely disrupting the Medici’s passage, leading to their relocation in 1593 and replacement with more “decorous” goldsmith shops.
