The Chiantigiana wine road:
Travel through the picturesque, rolling hills of the Tuscan countryside, passing by flourishing vineyards, graceful cypress trees, fields of sunflowers, and delightful hillside villages. -
Cantine Guidi - The first stop is a renowned historic winery celebrated for producing three unique wine varieties: Chianti Classico, Super Tuscan, and Vernaccia. Chianti Classico, primarily made from Sangiovese grapes, is a lively red wine with a bold, earthy character. Super Tuscan wines are crafted outside traditional DOC regulations, allowing winemakers to experiment with a blend of international and local grape varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sangiovese.
Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a refreshing white wine from Tuscany’s medieval hilltop town, San Gimignano. It offers crisp flavors of green apple, citrus, and almonds, with a mineral undertone.
After a brief tour of the cellars and an introduction to the winery’s history and techniques, enjoy a tasting of these exceptional wines, each offering a unique taste of Tuscany’s diverse winemaking tradition. - San Gimignano - After the tasting, head to San Gimignano for a self-guided visit of this famous medieval village.
Enjoy free time to explore the town, and the visit—including its magnificent towers—will take approximately an hour. San Gimignano is a small, walled medieval hill town not far from Siena, known as the “Town of Fine Towers.” In the Middle Ages, over 70 towers stood here, and today, it’s like an open-air museum, where walking through the streets feels like stepping back in time. The town is also famous for its saffron, “Golden Ham,” and Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a white wine made from the ancient Vernaccia grape that grows on the region’s sandstone hillsides.
Be sure to stop in the main square to try “the best gelato in the world” at Gelateria Dondoli, and as you wander the charming streets, admire the remarkable work of skilled local artisans.
After the visit, return to Florence.
