The collection, ‘Le Macchine di Leonardo’ - the world’s largest (PRIVATE) assemblage of Leonardo da Vinci’s machines was created as a result of Carlo Niccolai’s (born 25th February 1936) youthful passion. The Niccolai family, known for their substantial craftmanship, have so far crafted 250 varied models and 50 interactive exhibits based on da Vinci’s codes and historical documents, using materials from Leonardo’s era: wood, metal, ropes, and fabrics. Adhering to the unwritten laws of Florentine artisans, Carlo has passed his immense interest down to his sons and grandsons. These family members have used their technological know-how to add to the collection and set up more than 100 exhibitions around the globe over the preceding decade. The exhibition spans three floors, covering an area of 850 square meters.
