• Galleria dell’Accademia - The Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze is the second most visited art museum in Italy, following the Uffizi. It is renowned for housing Michelangelo’s sculpture David. The museum also features other works by Michelangelo and a significant collection of paintings by Florentine artists, primarily from 1300–1600 (the Trecento to the Late Renaissance). It is smaller and more specialized than the Uffizi, Florence’s main art museum. Although it is adjacent to the Accademia di Belle Arti, or academy of fine arts of Florence, it has no other connection to it despite the name.
• Bargello National Museum - The Bargello, also known as the Palazzo del Bargello or Palazzo del Popolo (‘Palace of the People’), is a former barracks and prison in Florence, Italy. Since 1865, it has been home to the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, a national art museum.
• Cappelle Medicee - The Medici Chapels are two chapels constructed between the 16th and 17th centuries as an extension to the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence, Italy. They include the Sagrestia Nuova (‘New Sacristy’), designed by Michelangelo, and the larger Cappella dei Principi (‘Chapel of the Princes’), a collaboration between the Medici family and architects. The chapels were built to honor the Medici family, patrons of the church and Grand Dukes of Tuscany.
• Laurentian Medici Library - The Laurentian Library is a historic library in Florence, Italy, housing over 11,000 manuscripts and 4,500 early printed books. Built within a cloister of the Medicean Basilica di San Lorenzo di Firenze under the patronage of Medici Pope Clement VII, the library was intended to highlight that the Medici were more than just merchants; they were also part of the intellectual and ecclesiastical elite. The library contains the manuscripts and books from the Medici family’s private collection. The building, designed by Michelangelo, is celebrated for its Mannerist architecture.
• Casa Buonarroti - Casa Buonarroti in Florence is both a museum and a monument, commemorating the genius of Michelangelo. It also serves as a baroque exhibition of the family’s rich art collections. The museum offers a unique visitor experience among Florence’s many museums, showcasing two famous marble reliefs sculpted by Michelangelo in his early years: the Madonna della Scala, reflecting his passion for Donatello, and the Battle of the Centaurs, demonstrating his admiration for classical art.
• Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence - The Basilica di Santa Croce (‘Basilica of the Holy Cross’) is a minor basilica and the main Franciscan church in Florence, Italy. Located on the Piazza di Santa Croce, about 800 meters southeast of the Duomo, it stands on what was once marshland outside the city walls. Known as the Temple of the Italian Glories, it is the burial site of notable Italians such as Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli, the poet Foscolo, the philosopher Gentile, and the composer Rossini.
