Highlights
  • Palazzo Vecchio - Secure your priority entrance ticket to explore the Palazzo Vecchio museum, which encompasses a vast array of galleries, artworks, and the historical administrative quarters of Florence’s ruler, Cosimo de’ Medici, along with his abode.

In the year 1299, the civic body and citizens of Florence resolved to erect a palatial structure befitting the city’s prominence, as well as to provide a more fortified and defensible location for the commune’s officials during unstable times. The design was entrusted to Arnolfo di Cambio, the renowned architect behind the Duomo and the Santa Croce church.

The Palazzo Vecchio’s era of splendor commenced when the Medici dynasty chose to transform it into a grand palace, establishing it as their familial home.

Your tour will allow you to appreciate the architectural grandeur of the palace, including its sculptures and paintings, and delve into the intricate and opulent history of the Medici family.

Additional Information

Palazzo Vecchio stands as one of Florence’s most significant and powerful art symbols, exemplifying medieval civil architecture and the influence of the Medici family. During your visit, you can explore the magnificent Salone dei Cinquecento, a grand hall constructed in just seven months by Simone del Pollaiolo at the behest of Girolamo Savonarola. When Cosimo I de Medici became Duke and took residence in Palazzo Vecchio, he utilized the Salone dei Cinquecento as a reception hall for ambassadors, citizens, and visitors. The hall’s ceiling is designed like drawers and adorned with paintings celebrating Cosimo’s life. The statues in the hall depict the “Labors of Hercules,” while the Vasari frescoes on the walls illustrate Cosimo’s achievements. Originally known as the Palazzo dei Priori (Palace of Priori), the building was renamed Palazzo della Signoria in the 15th century.

Must See if you like THE MEDICI - Seeing the rooms where the Priori met. Also the Cosimo and Lorenzo rooms. This was an entry without guide but still enjoyed a lot. Room with 500 really nice. Glad Florence allowed the production of The Medici to be filmed there.

Meh.. - The host that got us in to the palace was not very informative. Once we walked in, he said something quickly to us and disappeared. We never saw him again. We had to ask around to find out where to go and the supposed “app” to listen to, we were not able to obtain or find and there was no one to help us. The ear pieces didn’t fit our phones anyway. Disappointed.

Visit cancelled without explanation - This visit to the Palazzo Vecchio, scheduled for Saturday, June 29 at 3 p.m., never took place, as we had just arrived in Florence and received an email informing us that the Palazzo was closed without further explanation. However, we paid in advance by credit card 55.34 euros, plus 1.93 euros in fees. We therefore expect Tripadvisor to refund these amounts immediately to my credit card. André and Ann Naef

Don't waste your money - If I could give it zero I would! Requested I formation in writing in English, which was an option on the ticket and I didn't receive it. Tour operator sent me dodgy audio that did not work instead and I had not requested. Don't waste your money and book another tour.
