The Palazzo Vecchio is a renowned and significant emblem of Florence, exemplifying the magnificence of medieval civil architecture. Upon touring this palace, the exquisite Salone dei Cinquecento will come into view, a grand hall spanning 54 meters in length and 23 meters in width. It was constructed in just seven months by Simone del Pollaiolo, at the behest of Girolamo Savonarola. Following his ascension as Duke, Cosimo I de Medici made Palazzo Vecchio his abode, using the Salone dei Cinquecento as an audience chamber to meet ambassadors and citizens. The Hall’s ceiling is adorned with a series of paintings lauding the life of Cosimo I. There are also statues personifying the ‘Labors of Hercules’, with Vasari frescoes garnishing the walls to illustrate Cosimo’s accomplishments. Palazzo dei Priori, initially named thus, underwent a change and was christened as Palazzo della Signoria in the 15th century.
