Highlights

Labuan Bajo-Dintor

Lembor - This morning, your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Labuan Bajo to start the half-day drive to Dintor on the south coast of Flores. Midway, you’ll reach Lembor, where you can either have lunch or take it to go.

Nanga Lili - From Lembor, you’ll proceed to Nangalili beach for a seaside picnic. Then, continue along the coastline (a slow and bumpy ride) to the small village of Dintor. You’ll spend the night at the Wae Rebo Lodge, nestled in a paddy field with views of the fields and the sea towards Mules Island. Dinner will be at the lodge.

Dintor-Wae Rebo

Wae Rebo Village - Today, visit the beautiful and remote village of Wae Rebo. Start with a short drive up the mountain’s lower slopes to the village of Denge, where you’ll hop on the back of a motorcycle for a 10-minute ride further up the mountain to post 1, the starting point for your 5 km hike to Wae Rebo. Follow a stone-laid path and then a well-trodden forest path to reach the village. Be prepared for a challenging uphill hike with sturdy hiking boots or walking shoes. Upon arrival at the charming village of Wae Rebo, you’ll be welcomed by the Wae Lu’u ritual, which requests permission and blessings from the village ancestors. Lunch will be in the village. The afternoon is free for further exploration, visiting local homes, learning about their customs and traditions, and enjoying the beauty of this amazing location. Overnight in one of Wae Rebo’s traditional cone-shaped homes, shared with other visitors.

Bajawa-Ruteng

Lingko Spider Web Rice Fields - If you wish, rise early to catch the beautiful sunrise. After breakfast, head back down the mountain to the lodge, where you can leave your main bag and freshen up before continuing your journey to Ruteng. Along this 3 1⁄2 hour drive, you’ll have several stops at interesting spots, including a visit to the spider web rice fields at Cancar and a delicious local lunch of “Se’I babi” (a popular East Nusa Tenggara dish of smoked pork).

Ruteng-Bajawa

Ruteng - Start the morning with a short drive to a spectacular lookout over a sea of rice terraces stretching across the valleys and up the mountain slopes surrounding Ruteng. Then, continue to drive to Rana Mese Lake.

Bajawa

Bajawa-Moni

Moni-Bajawa

Mount Kelimutu - Your adventure continues with an early 4 am start for a short drive to the base of Kelimatu, followed by a 30-minute hike to the mountain peak (1600 m). From the peak, watch the sunrise over the colored lakes, creating a memory that will last a lifetime. Then, head back to your hotel for a shower and breakfast before continuing the last leg of your journey to reach Ende.

Ende - From Wologai, drive to Ende for lunch. In the afternoon, visit a house that later became a museum where Indonesia’s first President Soekarno was exiled for four years (1834-1938). His exile in Ende was historically significant, as he developed the concept of Pancasila, Indonesia’s five fundamental principles. Your afternoon in Ende is free at the hotel.

Hotel-Airport

Ende - Today is free in Ende until it’s time for your transfer from the hotel to the airport for your departing flight.

Amazing Flores - While planning my trip to Indonesia I knew already I wanted to see more of Flores. At first I was looking for a shared tour as I was solo traveling. As there were no options available I decided to search for a private guide. Irwan was promptly responding to my request via WhatsApp and was very communicative and informative to every question I had. It was an easy decision for me to do my trip with Irwan as time and place were fitting perfectly and I instantly had the feeling Irwan is there to show me the island in its full beauty. For him it was important to make everything possible for me, and he took care of everything without me worrying about anything. The time I had on the island with it's nature was amazing, especially Kelimutu was so worth it. What I will always have in my memories are the welcoming people, the untouched nature and the best guide i could have wished for, his amazing family i was able to meet for a coffee and not forgetting to mention our amazing driver Mus! Thanks again, I will for sure come back one day!

Excellent Flores Trip - We (Martine and Paul) had a wonderful trip with our guide Erlando and our driver Mus. We drove from Labuan Bajo to Ruteng (and back) where we stayed for 3 nights. Erlando's information was very interesting and we learned a lot from him about Flores and its inhabitants. Mus is an excellent driver. And together they were a great team to go out with. During our trip we had some health problems and Erlando and Mus did everything they could to support us. Their hometown is Ruteng and they showed us the most beautiful places there. We were very impressed with the spider web rice fields. But the waterfall and cave where Flores man was discovered were also highlights. We even had the chance to meet their families and were able to attend Erlando's niece's wedding. Things we will never forget. The trip was very well organized and the hotels we stayed in were excellent. We definitely recommend booking with Flores Traveler if you want to get to know Flores better and have an unforgettable and interesting trip.

A Superb Trip in Flores! - Recently my 24 year old daughter and I returned from a wonderful experience on a 7 day ‘Flores Overland’ trip with Flores Traveler. I had found this small company online, so of course had some concerns as to their legitimacy, and to the quality of the services that they were able to provide – and was more than pleasantly surprised right from the start of the whole process! To begin, they were highly responsive to all my questions – responding very promptly with complete answers to every question that I could come up with. The payment process was relatively simple, accomplished with a wire transfer to their bank account in advance of the trip – although that would be a bit easier if they were set up so as to allow for payments by credit card. And then, in Flores, they showed up right on time on day 1, just as promised, and we were off. From that point on, travelling with our guide Irwan, and the fabulous Mr Mus as the driver of our spacious and comfortable vehicle, we started heading east from Labuan Bajo, and the whole week was a total joy. Beautiful scenery ranging from the terraced slopes of dramatic volcanos to deserted coastal beaches, with lots of stops to explore small towns and markets, waterfalls and panoramic viewpoints – as well as lots of time for walks (and the rigorous hike to beautiful Wae Rebo), and visits to local indigenous villages and volcanic lakes. And while some of the roads were less than ideal, accommodations were definitely better than expected, and throughout, all accompanied by Irwan and Mus, who were not only flexible, informative, supportive and caring, but also open and fun, and always in good spirits, making us feel that we were almost all together on a family holiday! You can find out all the itinerary and pricing details directly from Flores Traveler, but rest assured that this is a professional, responsible, and thoughtful tour company, dedicated to providing a quality experience for those looking to explore the beautiful island of Flores!

Magnificent local agency - We are a family of 5 people and during the month of August 2023 we toured the island of Flores and the Komodo National Park with Avelino. The trip was 8 days, of which for 5 days we toured Flores and the remaining 3 days we navigated the Komodo National Park. It was a magnificent experience and, without a doubt, the islands we liked the most in Indonesia (we also visited Sulawesi and Bali). Flores is a very virgin island and very pleasant to visit. Above all, I want to highlight the exquisite treatment of Irwan (the agency manager) and the kindness, cordiality and professionalism of Avelino, our guide during the 8 days of travel. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me.

Wonderful 8 days in Flores with an excellent team - We made a wonderful trip between Labuan Bajo and Maumere (8 days) with Irwan and Tony (family of 4). We are usually reluctant to use guided tours but the passion of Irwan, his incredible knowledge of the people met in small villages and his kindness made the experience excellent. He has found the perfect level of presence and care but still leaving freedom and autonomy to his guests. We also always felt safe in the car driven by Tony. During the week, we have crossed several people doing the same trip with different companies and they were not as satisfied as we were: we highly recomment Flores Traveler !

Amazing Experience - We had a fabulous 8 day exploration of Flores Island and Komodo National Park that was expertly planned and perfectly executed by Flores Traveller. Our itinerary was carefully thought out, diverse and provided excellent value for money. We saw some incredible scenery and felt that we were truly able to experience the culture and people of the area. Our initial impression of Flores Traveller was extremely favourable. The owner Irwan, was friendly, responsive and timely in answering our emails and with his in country experience helped us create a custom tour which reflected our goals for the trip. We had excellent channels of communication and his attention to detail made planning our holiday a worry free and pleasurable experience. Flores Traveller is committed to sustainable and responsible tourism and also contribute a percentage of each tour cost to support important community initiatives. Contributions from our tour went to provide food for an orphanage in Ruteng, which we had the opportunity to visit. Their effort to support the use of fewer plastic bottles, by providing a continuous supply of filtered water to refill our water flasks was commendable. Accommodation was first class and many of the properties were very unique. Our local guide, Alvin, and our driver, Tony were friendly, professional and courteous and stayed with us the entire time. Tony was an excellent driver, very cautious, and we felt entirely safe travelling the high mountain roads on Flores. The vehicle was comfortable and always clean. Our guide, Alvin was enthusiastic, passionate, had a genuine love for his native island and was proud to showcase it. His English was excellent and his knowledge of Flores and its culture was unsurpassed. Our sincere thanks to Irwan, Alvin Tony and the entire Flores Traveller team for providing such a rich experience for us. We would highly recommend them for anyone wishing to travel to Flores.

HIGHLY recommend this company for a fantastic experience in Flores. - We were a group of 6 pax from age 5 years to 70 years and we all had a brilliant experience doing the 4D3N trip from Ende to LBJ. We loved the diversity of the trip getting to visit beautiful and interesting places along with interacting with the locals and learning about their culture and traditions. Visiting the traditional villages was really special and a great experience for my children to see how different cultures live. Erland was a brilliant tour guide and was always so helpful, attentive, and informative. The trip included lots of driving and we were extremely grateful for our driver, Fred who was a brilliant driver. We also had the privilege of Irwan (another excellent tour guide) joining us for the day to learn about how coffee and other crops are grown and harvested along with an awesome walking adventure through the rice paddy fields. Seeing the sunrise at Kelemuti was amazing and we loved the stunning views of Mount Inerie and the spider web rice fields. This is a MUST do trip in Flores, followed by a boat trip around Komodo and the surrounding area.

Beautiful Flores wow wow wow - My sister and I were trying to figure out how to visit different sites on Flores when we stumbled on Flores Traveler. One reviewer said that you can request them with your eyes closed and that is true. From the initial communication on WA with Irwan, we got a very good impression. Communication was always smooth despite the time difference. Irwan is very flexible to adjust our itinerary and hotels according to our wishes (I really wanted to stay at the convent in Ruteng). There was a good balance between sight-seeing, driving and rest, and I can only wish the trip had been longer. We did the Overland Flores Tour from Maumere to Labuan Bajo and are so happy that we got Erland as our guide and Kakak Tony as our driver. Both are extremely professional, funny and caring, and as promised we saw all the sites determined in our itinerary. One thing that we appreciate a lot about Flores Traveler is their emphasis on sustainability and supporting local community. It is very apparent that they care for the island and the people and they really live the vision of their company. Our interaction with the people of Flores together with Erland and Tony was definitely the highlight of our trip and what made it very meaningful. We learned a lot about Flores (for instance that Manggarai people are descended from a Padang shipwreck) and each day was very memorable – Wuring fishing village, Lepo Lorun weaving community, stunning views of Gunung Inerie and Gunung Ebulobo, the traditional villages of Wologai, Bena and Todo, the arak distillery in Aimere, rice field trekking in Ruteng. Sooooo many memories. We recommend eating Padang food in Ruteng and also the Heaven's Door restaurant in Bajawa (incredible view wow!). We appreciate that all the logistics were taken care of by Flores Traveler. It made the trip very enjoyable and less stressful. The roads in Flores are indeed very challenging and snaky (Erland told us that the original name of Flores is Nusa Nipa, which means Snake Island), but with Flores Traveler we felt very safe. Many, many thanks to Irwan, Erland and Kakak Tony for the wonderful trip!
