Lake Cave Tour: Exploration of Iconic Limestone Caves in Western Australia

Discover Lake Cave’s stunning limestone formations and tranquil lake on a guided tour. Explore Western Australia’s iconic underground treasure.

Duration: 1 hour
Cancellation: 1 day learn more
Highlights
  • Lake Cave - During the guided tour you’ll see delicate crystal straws and stalactites reflected in the water; droplets of the last year’s rainfall hanging from the tips are a sign that the formations are growing. This is the most ‘actively dripping’ cave in the southwest, and the only cave on the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge that has a permanent lake.

As you walk through the cave your guide will describe how the uniquely beautiful features of the cave have formed over millennia. When seated at the back of the cave, you’ll witness the changing vistas of the cave as the guide illuminates the cave’s incredible formations.

Once back above ground, admire the views from the Lake Cave Deck, a spectacular viewing platform in the treetops. The deck is built from beautiful local timbers and features incredible glass portholes with views through to the cavern below.

There is an interpretative centre onsite, designed to help you learn about the formation and history of caves within the region, throughout Australia and around the world.

Additional Information

Lake Cave is an awe-inspiring, untouched crystalline marvel, deeply tucked away beneath the surface - a quintessential limestone cave in Western Australia. In the hour-long guided journey, travelers traverse a staircase back into history, through a magnificent doline (a type of sinkhole), descending towards the base of the subterranean forest - with karri trees looming overhead. Inside the cavern, a serene lake mirrors countless minute crystal clusters. The ‘Suspended Table’ formation is a sight to behold - an impressive crystal adornment weighing several tonnes that dangles from the roof, nearly grazing the pristine lake waters.

Lake Cave- stunning - We chose Lake Cave after reading various reviews and were not disappointed. It is smaller than many caves we have visited but its beauty is stunning and shown without coloured lighting which is a bonus. Our guide Kate was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. A great tour!

Very pretty cave - Really pretty cave. Worth the long climb out (320 stairs straight down then up) as its a wet cave the water initially makes it very picturesque. Highly recommend this cave. My wife isn't very fit but took our time coming back up slowly.

A fascinating and engaging tour. A must see in Margaret River. - Wow. What a fantastic tour. This was a group of 10 people including five children and an infant. Our tour guide could not have been more personable, funny, interesting and engaging. She was truly passionate about the cave and the kids in our party were so fascinated and engaged by her commentary. Thank you for a wonderful morning and a highlight of our time in Margaret River!

Amazing cave, great tour, and the best tour guide - Lake cave is a unique experience. I have been in other caves, but this one is the most spectacular. Our tour guide Garry the Kiwi, was just the best, Knowledgeable and fun, he made the experience special. The suspended table formation in photo is something to behold. This is a special cave in a special part of the world. Go see it.

Lake Cave - Tour was great. Lots of great limestone formations to view. Just a pity that at the end the guide didn't turn all the lights on in the cave, so everyone could get an awesome photo with the reflections in the lake. Allow more time for this visit. Cave tour is 1 hour but you need to allow time to walk to the start and then back up the many stairs to the top again.
