Uncover the homegrown art of “rust printing” on textiles in this workshop situated in Forlì’s historical heart. Here, experienced artisans etch intricate designs into blocks of pear wood, which are used as printing stamps. The wooden blocks are then infused with printing dyes, yielding wash-resistant prints. The embellishments may either be traditional symbols representing Emilia Romagna’s pastoral lifestyle, like the rooster, the “caveja” (a symbolic wrought iron pivot adorned with allegorical decorations, used to anchor yokes), wheat stalks or grapes, or they may be unique floral or decorative motifs created by the workshop itself.
