The Allies constructed an artificial temporary harbor here for unloading vehicles, materials, and personnel. By June 12, 1944, Mulberry Harbour had facilitated the arrival of 300,000 men, 54,000 vehicles, and 104,000 tons of supplies to Europe.

• Normandy American Cemetery - 15:00 - 16:10 Arrive and visit the Normandy American Cemetery & Visitor Center in Colleville-sur-Mer, overlooking Omaha Beach. It contains 9,387 U.S. soldiers, most of whom were killed during the Normandy Landings, and the Wall of the Missing, listing 1,557 soldiers missing in action. The cliffs leading to the beaches hold remnants of German defenses, including concrete casemates with memorials to the soldiers. At the Normandy American Cemetery, you’ll also see the semicircular memorial colonnade with the sculpture “Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves” and large maps of military operations; it is one of the most beautiful, idyllic spots on Earth. The Visitors Center features a lovely small museum with extensive information about the Battle of Normandy.
