The house where Germany’s most famous author and poet, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, was born is known as the Goethe House. This place has been modified into a museum to honor Goethe’s life and his contribution to German literature, so much so that the German Language Institute was named after him. His well-known pieces including ‘Götz von Berlichingen’, ‘Faust’, and ‘The Sorrows of Young Werther’, have had a monumental impact on the literary world. Originally, this building which now serves as a museum, was home to the Goethe family until 1795. After changing ownership several times, it was reconstructed as a tribute to the writer by geologist Otto Volger in 1863. Despite damage from the Allied bombing of Frankfurt, it was swiftly restored post-war. Owing to the meticulous renovation, visitors can appreciate the authentic surroundings, including the unchanged architectural style, decor, antique furniture, and artwork, reminiscent of Goethe’s formative years.
