A Journey Through Time and Nature

As I embarked on the Waterfalls and Highlands Tour, I was immediately transported back to the road trips of my youth. The winding roads of Asheville, North Carolina, reminded me of the countless hours spent in the backseat of my family’s old station wagon, gazing out at the ever-changing landscapes of America. This time, however, I was not a child but a grandmother, sharing the experience with my husband in our trusty RV.

Our guide, AJ, was a delightful companion, full of stories and insights about the region. His knowledge of the local history and natural wonders was impressive, and he tailored the tour to suit our interests. As we drove through the Callusaja River Gorge, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at the sheer beauty of the cascading waterfalls and lush greenery. AJ surprised us with a picnic lunch at Cliffside Lake, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of the mountains. As we sat by the water, enjoying our meal and the serene surroundings, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to explore such a beautiful part of the country.

A Charming Retreat in Highlands

Our journey continued to the charming town of Highlands, where we spent some time exploring the quaint shops and indulging in the local cuisine. The town’s vibrant arts scene and warm hospitality made it a delightful stop on our tour.

As we wandered through the streets, I was reminded of the small towns I visited during my childhood road trips. There was a sense of nostalgia in the air, a feeling of stepping back in time to a simpler era.

The tour concluded with a visit to Whiteside Mountain, where we were treated to panoramic views and striking geological formations. It was a fitting end to a day filled with wonder and discovery.
