Additional Information
Glacier Country Helicopters is a local, family owned and operated company based in Franz Josef, on the West Coast of New Zealand. Husband and wife team Gus and Poppy started the company in January 2014 and you’ll generally find one of them out flying most days.
On our Glacier Explorer flight you’ll fly over the Franz Josef Glacier and then into the Southern Alps to enjoy the included 10 minute snow landing for photos. Total experience time approx. 25 minutes.
Please allow an extra 45minutes on top of your flight time to allow for checking in, transport to helicopter, loading, unloading and to return to our office.
- Please let us know if you have limited mobility e.g. injury, arthritis or recent surgery? There are two high ladder style steps into the helicopter. This information could effect what helicopter we fly you in.
- Our helicopter seats are 40cm wide. If you would like extra space or are wider than this we highly recommend booking a comfort seat which guarantees an empty seat next to you.

Please check in at our office 30 minutes prior to your flight time. We recommend bringing sunglasses, a jacket, camera, and shoes you don’t mind getting wet.
Our only base operates from Franz Josef. Cancellations within 24hours due to customer booking the wrong location will not be refunded.

Super experience - Beautiful experience... The whole trip was great and worth a life time experience.. the staff were all courteous and nice and so was the pilot.. would recommend it to anyone going to the glaciers

A must do if visiting fox glacier - Overall awesome experience - the staff were very friendly. Had a few hiccups due to weather conditions but the staff worked around it . But overall loved it . Thank you

The best plot of our story! 🫶🏻💍❤️ - The experience was the most memorable experience of our lives me and my fiance. The staff members and the pilot were very supportive when my boyfriend (now fiance) secretly told his plan that he would propose. They made adjustments to make it more private and the pilot captured that once-in-a-lifetime moment. They said that was the least that they could but for us, it was way more being what was expected and more personal for us!!! We are so glad that we booked the flight with the right people in it. I'm telling you guys, whoever gets to read this, book with them if you want to have a blast and great experience of your West Coast Trip!!! The best plot of our story!! 🤍💍 - Our experience was the memorable part of our lives with me and my fiance. The staffs and the pilot were very supportive about my boyfriend (now my fiance) asking secretly to propose. They think that’s the least that they can do but for us it’s above our expectation. Amazing helicopter flight - Fabulous experience! I was very nervous about going in an helicopter but our pilot Dion was brilliant - such a smooth flight to the glacier. Beautiful sunny day made for stunning views.
The flight was the highlight of our trip to NZ!!
Highly recommend this small family owned business.

Amazing!! - What an amazing adventure. Beautiful views from the helicopter but probably more memorable was the glacier after we landed. The ice was like a sparkling wonderland as it glistened in the sun!! Thanks for an awesome experience that we’ll never forget.

Franz Josej Glacier - It's worth it because otherwise you won't be able to appreciate the glacier. The best thing was landing at the top of the mountain and the spectacular view.
