- Kaiser-Joseph-Strasse - The main shopping avenue in Freiburg. From this location, visitors can see the Martinstor (one of the five original gates into the medieval city), the Basler Hof (the former residence of the bishops of Basel), and the Franco-Prussian war victory monument.
- Freiburg Cathedral - Discover the beauty and history of this beloved Cathedral. Visits inside are limited to groups of five or fewer, but there is plenty to admire outside. Marvel at the tower, completed in the 14th century, and appreciate the Romanesque and Gothic architecture. The entrance portal is a true gem, featuring many 13th-century statues and figures.
- Munsterplatz - Every morning, except Sunday, the vibrant market fills the Cathedral Square with colorful displays and enticing aromas from fruit and vegetable stalls, fresh flowers, cheese, and meat stands. When the market is not in session, the square exudes a peaceful charm. A notable building here is the impressive old Customs Hall (alte Kaufhaus).
- Konviktstraße - Considered by many as the most beautiful street in Freiburg. Witness how medieval houses have been meticulously restored to reflect their original character. This street also showcases some of the floor mosaics for which Freiburg is renowned.
- Schwabentor - One of the two remaining and very impressive city gates of Freiburg. The Schwabentor (Swabian Gate) has been extensively adorned and modified since its original construction in the 13th century, including being raised to accommodate modern trams. It stands at the edge of one of Freiburg’s oldest areas.
- Gerberau - Once the bustling, odorous tanners’ district, it is now a charming corner of Freiburg with boutique shops and waterside cafés. The tanners, along with nearby butchers and fishermen, required access to water, hence the canal running through the district. These businesses were located outside the city walls, a small section of which still exists here.
- Augustinerplatz - Home to the remarkable Augustiner Museum, formerly the Augustinian Monastery, and definitely worth a visit after the tour. This area also features more independent stores and coffee shops. For those interested in trying a German beer, the Feierling brewery is just a short walk away.
