Qin Shi Huang’s final wish was to achieve immortality, so he tasked Xi Fu with finding the elixir of life from the sacred eastern mountain. Numerous legends about Xi Fu exist throughout Japan and Fujiyoshida. According to historical documents, Xi Fu noted that Fujiyoshida had seven shrines and a main shrine where ceremonies for ascending to the emperor were held. The Japanese emperor’s title, “Tennou,” translates to the Northern Dragon, Hokushin, symbolizing the deification of Polaris and the Big Dipper.
Walking this pilgrimage trail at the base of Mt. Fuji allows you to connect with the sentiments of ancient people, offering a meditative experience and a deeper understanding of the Asian dragon’s significance.
