- Camara De Lobos - It was this traditional fishing village, situated five kilometres from Funchal, which inspired Sir Winston Churchill to paint its lovely surroundings. The village was given its name by the explorers João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira because of the shape of its bay and the many Mediterranean monk seals (‘lobos’) living there at the time.
Câmara de Lobos, apart from its wonderful bay, has several points of interest, such as Pico da Torre, Curral das Freiras, Boca dos Namorados, Boca da Corrida and Cabo Girão.

Beginning our journey from Funchal, we’ll discover the classical homes of Madeira. Along the route, we’ll encounter ancient irrigation systems, many of which are remnants from Roman times, utilized by previous agrarian inhabitants of this region of Madeira. Our final stop will be at Europe’s highest cape, Cabo Girão, standing at a height of 580 m and renowned for its thrilling suspended glass platform. Cabo Girão’s viewpoint, the highest cliff in Europe at 580 m above sea level, commands a breathtaking view of the fajãs of Rancho and Cabo Girão. These are small patches of farmland nestled at the base of the cliff. Also visible are awe-inspiring panoramic views of the ocean and the municipalities of Câmara de Lobos and Funchal.
