Awesome, this is a must see. - Interesting, fun, and awesome. Even though I am scared of heights, I am delighted I managed all of the levada walk. The views are breathtaking, and I loved seeing the trout in the waters!

A Really Enjoyable Hike - A good 9 mile trail walk. Described by the guide as moderate to difficult but only because of distance and narrowness of trail in parts. Not a difficult walk as it is generally flat but you need to take care under foot due to exposed tree roots and slippery stones at times. Four tunnels on the route and a torch is needed. We went on a Saturday and it was very busy which makes passing at the narrow parts of the route a little tricky as the route takes you out and back along the same path. We went with Lido Tours and it was useful to have a guide who explained a lot about the vegetation en route but walk is easily done without a guide. We stopped for lunch at the waterfall before turning round to head back along the same route. There is a cafe at the start of the route so you can get tea, coffee etc but probably worth taking some food and water with you. A shower proof jacket is recommended and we needed them at the end as there was a slight rain shower.

Beautiful laurel forest - We did it from the parking lot. If you are in Madeira don't miss it. Be careful for any hike on levadas or peaks in Madeira, it is interesting to take a front.

Beautiful 10 mile walk great guide and customer service. - Lovely chap picked us up from hotel in mini bus. Told us lots about Madeira en route to levada walk. He then guided the walk with lots of info re flea and fauna. 10 miles of quite slow gradient with decent trainers on. Lovely trip

Wonderful hiking location - Great walk led by a friendly host. In the middle of summer the waterfalls were not in full flow but the hike had plenty of beautiful vistas regardless. Note it can get very busy on this route and you often have to pass people on very narrow parts of the levada.

Loved it - Levada walks vary so take the one that fits for you. You can have easy ones. short one or ones that require good conditions. Best time of the day is morning. It can also be quite cool so have enough clothing with you

I wish I knew this before choosing - Sorry to be the only negative review here but I wish someone had made these comments before my husband and I spent time on this levada walk. If you have even the most minor hip, knee or ankle issues you should steer clear of this walk. It’s 4+ hours on a treacherous trail of sharp rocks, potholes, mud and uncomfortably narrow stone paths. The path out is the same path as the path in. There are no areas to sit and rest along the way to the large waterfall. I wound up with new hip and knee injuries that I never experienced before.
