Funchal Levada Walk: Explore Remote Places and Incredible Waterfall of Caldeirão Verde

It is strongly suggested to take a stroll in some of the island’s most secluded areas. Our journey will include a passage through a water cascade, small tunnels and will culminate at the remarkable Caldeirão Verde waterfall.

Duration: 8 hours
Cancellation: 1 day learn more
Highlights
  • Levada Caldeirao Verde - A true fairy tale in a green paradise that starts in the Queimadas’ house. Until you reach the majestic waterfall, the path is remarkably green. Along the way you have a magnificent view over the village of São Jorge and the great mountains.

The water is always present along the walk. You can see the water gushing from the walls, flowing on the levada and falling from the sky on raining days. It’s a fantastic trail and safe all year long.

You will find some tunnels along the way so do not forget your flashlight and protect your head.

Arriving at Caldeirão Verde, immerse yourself by the breathtaking view of the huge waterfall falling on the cold and crystalline lagoon. Make a picnic before you go, while enjoying the relaxing sound of water falling.

Beautiful laurel forest - We did it from the parking lot. If you are in Madeira don't miss it. Be careful for any hike on levadas or peaks in Madeira, it is interesting to take a front.

Beautiful 10 mile walk great guide and customer service. - Lovely chap picked us up from hotel in mini bus. Told us lots about Madeira en route to levada walk. He then guided the walk with lots of info re flea and fauna. 10 miles of quite slow gradient with decent trainers on. Lovely trip

One of the best walks on the island. - This is an excellent thrill seekers walk it wasn't what I was expecting at all. Surprisingly easy going and the scenery is amazing everything from the sheer drop down to the caves its a top walk in madeira I'd fully recommend. Also the guide was a genuine guy who made sure everyone is OK and he had a great sense of humour.

Interesting stroll amongst the lush green mountains - The agency mini bus picked me up from nearby my hotel. The driver was good, the guide was friendly and made sure we were all ok during our walk. The walk itself was beautiful, it took no longer than 2 hours each way, and in the midst of our walk we stopped for a picnic by the gorgeous waterfall. Waterproof footwear is a must and make sure to bring a flash light for the tunnels as they can be quite dark and flooded with water. Overall a pleasant experience, the views are fantastic and I would recommend and use Lido Tours services again in the future.

Loved it - Levada walks vary so take the one that fits for you. You can have easy ones. short one or ones that require good conditions. Best time of the day is morning. It can also be quite cool so have enough clothing with you

I wish I knew this before choosing - Sorry to be the only negative review here but I wish someone had made these comments before my husband and I spent time on this levada walk. If you have even the most minor hip, knee or ankle issues you should steer clear of this walk. It’s 4+ hours on a treacherous trail of sharp rocks, potholes, mud and uncomfortably narrow stone paths. The path out is the same path as the path in. There are no areas to sit and rest along the way to the large waterfall. I wound up with new hip and knee injuries that I never experienced before.
