• Miradouro do Pináculo - Proceeding to Funchal’s eastern reaches, we’ll discover the quaint coastal hamlet of Garajau. But first, we’ll pause at an enchanting lookout point affectionately known as the “Pináculo” by the locals.

This scenic spot is situated on Rua Conde Carvalhal, perched 283 meters above the ocean, offering a panoramic spectacle of Funchal’s bay.

• Miradouro do Cristo Rei do Garajau - Our next destination is the charming village of Garajau, home to the “Cristo Rei” statue, a marvel of Madeira.

This iconic landmark, along with its stunning vistas, stands as a prime highlight of Garajau.

The “Cristo Rei” was erected in 1927, predating the renowned Christ the Redeemer in Brazil by four years. This Art Deco representation of Jesus Christ is the masterful creation of French artist Georges Serraz.

• Garajau Partial Nature Reserve - After soaking in the majestic views from the cliffs, our tuk-tuk adventure will descend towards the ocean to the Garajau Natural Reserve.

Established in 1986, this sanctuary on the southern coast of the island is home to the Epinephelus Guaza (Mero), among the park’s largest fish species. It’s crucial to note that this reserve is a protected zone, with fishing strictly prohibited.

Not only is fishing banned, but boating is also restricted in these waters, vigilantly monitored by naval patrols.

However, for those inclined towards underwater adventures, snorkeling is a way to experience the reserve’s crystal-clear waters and biological diversity. The Garajau Natural Reserve is celebrated for its pristine waters and ecological value, truly deserving of its safeguarded status.
