Enjoy a leisurely safari-style tour, visiting must-see locations!
The tour will take you off the beaten path, whenever possible, through old roads and off-road trails, reaching remote places, hidden valleys, and mountain villages, allowing you to witness the island’s wild beauty in a calm, safe, and relaxed manner.
Throughout the journey, there will be stops at all the best photo spots, on an exhilarating open jeep ride, offering various experiences that will awaken all your senses.
By the end of the tour, you’ll be eager to return and spend more time in this paradise.
- Zona Velha - We will traverse the old town with its very narrow roads.
Funchal Downtown is renowned for its narrow cobbled streets, adorned with the typical façades of old houses. The ‘Portas Pintadas’ (Painted Doors) project has made this urban setting even more appealing.
- Miradouro do Pináculo - Several photo stops will be made here.
Situated 283 meters above sea level, the Pináculo Viewpoint offers a perfect vantage point for admiring the tranquil ocean that caresses the southern coast of Madeira. From this spot, you can take in the detailed view of Funchal bay and the expanse of this Atlantic capital up the hillside.
- Miradouro do Cristo Rei do Garajau - Located in the parish of Caniço, municipality of Santa Cruz, this viewpoint provides a panoramic view of Garajau’s natural heritage, part of Funchal bay, and Caniço de Baixo, a significant tourist center. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a privileged view of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Cristo Rei Viewpoint is named after the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue erected here. This impressive sculpture of Jesus Christ, with open arms facing the ocean, was funded and commissioned by counselor Aires de Ornelas, son of the last majorat of Caniço.
Inaugurated on 30 October 1927, this magnificent statue, perched atop a coastal ravine, is an unforgettable landmark for visitors at the Cristo Rei Viewpoint. Due to its scenic and historical significance, it is a must-see for those visiting Madeira’s east coast.
- Santa Cruz - During our ascent, we will pause for photos, short walks, enjoy stunning scenery, observe some waterfalls, and appreciate the natural aromas around us.
- Santo António da Serra - Known for its romantic ambiance, the small parish of Santo da Serra in Madeira is one of the island’s most special places, dominated by the lush presence of nature. A must-visit on any trip to Madeira’s east coast.
Situated on a high plateau, reaching the parish center requires climbing to an altitude of 700m. Santo da Serra offers views over Machico and Santa Cruz. Its majestic mountainous landscapes, filled with abundant and exotic vegetation, provide a beautiful setting that is hard to ignore.
- Clube de Golf Santo da Serra - A brief stop will be made here for a short walk and photos.
The Santo da Serra Golf Club overlooks Machico bay, the site where the Discoverers first landed on the island.
- Santo da Serra Farmers Market - Only available on Sundays - We can visit the local market - FREE
Upon arriving at Santo da Serra, one of the oldest cities in the interior, which hosts one of the most traditional markets on Sundays with local products from local producers, you can purchase everything from clothes, utensils, towels, live animals, vegetables, and of course, the DELICIOUS tropical fruits grown here, along with local food sold at LOCAL PRICES!
- Miradouro da Portela - Next, we will stop at the Portela viewpoint, located between Porto da Cruz and Machico, to admire one of Madeira’s most beautiful landscapes.
From here, there is a great view of the Port of Cruz and the Penha d’Águia, which, although situated on the North Coast of the island, belong to the municipality of Machico. The Cortado area in Santana is also visible.
- Machico - We will then head off-road towards Machico, traversing tropical vegetation, always with excellent views. Along the way, we will stop at all the best photo opportunities.
We will also stop for poncha at a local bar.
- Praia de Machico - A short walk can be taken at Banda d’Além beach, located in Machico Bay, known for its fine yellow sand, unusual on this island and imported from other places, or alternatively, a stop can be made at the Pico do Facho viewpoint, offering a wide view over the Machico valley, the peaks of the central part of the island, the Desertas Islands, and Ponta de São Lourenço.
