Our journey commences by heading out of Funchal towards the small community of Santa Cruz for a brief interlude. From there, we proceed to Porto da Cruz and explore the local Sugar Cane Mill. There’s an opportunity here to sample the region’s famed libation, “Poncha”, which is concocted using Sugar Cane Brandy. Our expedition continues on through the verdant Laurel forest, following rough roads as we wend our way to the townships of Ilha and S. Jorge. Along this path, we’ll pause at the Boca das Voltas viewpoint to soak in the breathtaking panorama. Next, we set course for the coastal town of Arco de S. Jorge where we’ll have a break for lunch. Post-lunch, the trip goes on along the northern shoreline, en route, we’ll pass through Boaventura, Ponta Delgada and São Vicente. Our next stop is Quinta do Barbusano, where we’ll get to tour the estate and sample the wines produced on-premises. The wine tasting includes red, white and rosé wines. As the day winds down, we make our way back to Funchal.
