It is popular for being the path in Madeira with the most breathtaking views because of the weather diversity along the hike. You will feel that you walk “above the clouds” and on the challenging path you will find a few tunnel-walks and the famous “stairs to heaven”.

Pico Ruivo - Pico Ruivo, with 1862 meters of altitude is the highest mountain in Madeira Island, it is also the third highest mountain in all Portugal. To access the peak you must arrive walking. The absolute best way is from Pico do Arieiro (the 3rd highest mountain on the island with 1810 meters of altitude).

This hike from Pico Do Arieiro To Pico Ruivo To Achada Do Teixeira is 11 km long (4:30 hours in total). Level: Medium-Hard.

Santana - At the end of the hike, in the drive from Achada Do Teixeira to Funchal/Caniço, we will pass by without stopping in front of the triangle Santana houses.

Once we’ve gathered all guests (maximum of 8) from their residential locations in Funchal or Caniço (exclusively), our journey to Pico Do Arieiro begins. There you can marvel at the spectacular hike to Pico Ruivo, the island’s highest peak! Be prepared for jaw-dropping scenery!

Embark on this famous trail at your own pace and confront the challenging ‘stairs to heaven’. Experience walking ‘above the clouds’, or stick with other guests if you prefer. We will be at the trail’s end to take you back to your accommodation.

The hike journey spans from Pico Do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo to Achada Do Teixeira (11 km = 4:45 hours in total). Difficulty Grade: Medium-Hard.

For customers coming by car to Funchal from other parts of the island outside our pick-up areas (Funchal and Caniço) we recommend to park at Parque 2000 as it is the cheapest and most comfortable parking of Funchal center. We will pick you and drop you there.

Radical - The driver Radko was attentive and kind. The trail from Pico Arieiro to the Funchal Ecological Park was tiring but totally worth it. Each landscape takes your breath away. I highly recommend it.

AUG 24 - Simple and easy transfer. Hints and tips on the way. One of the best ways to do this walk. Timings leave lots of space for stopping on the way. Be wary that the walk has minimal places for going to the toilet and people do their business on the route which is vile.

Pico to pico - The trip was great, all the info beforehand was accurate and as promised. We were collected punctually by our guide Ciro who drove us right to the beginning of the trail, he gave us a great insight into many aspects of Madeira. At the trail he gave us a thorough briefing and he was there at the end as arranged. He then drove us safely back to our hotel. The hike is challenging but well worth the effort. Would recommend to anyone considering the best way to the top.

Amazing hike - The transfer with Ciro was great. He was punctual, informative and fun. The hike itself was breath taking! Definitely a moderate-hard hike bur if you can muster it, well worth it.

Great shuttle service - Great service from Funchal to Pico Aireiro and then from Achada de Teixeira to Funchal. Elisabeth were promptly replying on WhatsApp while Radko was giving us comfortable and friendly driving.
