-
Sao Sebastiao Viewpoint (mirador) - We head westward, using paths carved through the mountains from Campanário. Here, we can observe the work of our ancestors in creating one of UNESCO’s world heritage sites, the famous terraces of Madeira Island. These ancient constructions involve building stone walls of volcanic origin to expand the cultivation area on the island’s slopes. After viewing these structures, we will briefly stop at the São Sebastião viewpoint, situated 170 meters above sea level, offering an ideal spot to observe the only valley in Madeira Island that cuts through it from north to south.

Cais da Ponta do Sol - We proceed to the village of Ponta do Sol, passing through a tunnel that leads to the village. Inside a pond at the roundabout, we can see a modern statue paying homage to Madeira Island’s terraces, with the main crop being the famous Madeira banana tree. We will make a short stop to visit a small Roman arch bridge made of basalt stone, an ideal location for photographs over the bay.
-
Cascata dos Anjos - After stopping in Ponta do Sol, we take the old regional road, where we can see how Madeira Island’s old tunnels were constructed by hand and with explosives. From the panoramic roof of our UMM, we can view the uncoated basalt dome. Between the tunnels, we can also see the old Royal Road nº23. We then stop at the famous Cascata dos Anjos, known on social media for its stunning photos.
-
Madalena do Mar - From Cascata dos Anjos, we travel along the Madalena do Mar waterfront, observing the harmonious coexistence of the sea and banana tree-filled terraces. The region’s micro-climate allows for the production of high-quality Madeira bananas.
-

Ponta do Pargo Lighthouse - Continuing our tour, we head to Ponta do Pargo, the westernmost point of Madeira Island. Inaugurated in 1922, the lighthouse stands on a cliff at an altitude of 290 meters. The tower is 14 meters high, with its light focus at an altitude of 312 meters.
-
Miradouro do Teleferico das Achadas da Cruz - Following the old regional road, we reach a small village between the north and south, where we can see a small cable car providing access to a fajã at sea level, where agriculture and vineyards thrive due to the micro-climate, producing excellent wine. Cable car tickets are not included.

Sao Vicente - After leaving Porto Moniz, we explore the north coast with its lush flora from the rugged mountains to sea level, understanding why this part of Madeira Island is called the Hawaii of Europe, also known for its excellent surfing spots. Amidst this lush vegetation, we can see numerous waterfalls originating from the plateau above 1000 meters, flowing towards the sea year-round, creating a breathtaking landscape.
