• Galle Fort - Situated in the Bay of Galle on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast, Galle Fort was initially constructed by the Portuguese in 1588 and later extensively fortified by the Dutch from 1649 onwards. Known as the Dutch Fort or the “Ramparts of Galle,” it remarkably withstood the Boxing Day tsunami, which affected parts of the coastal area of Galle town. The fort has since been restored.
