New Year’s Eve in Galle: A Celebration of Heritage and Nature
Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Galle, where the charm of colonial heritage meets the allure of nature. With a mix of cultural exploration and scenic adventures, this weekend promises a memorable end to the year.
Embracing the Heritage of Galle
As the year draws to a close, the enchanting city of Galle in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province beckons travelers with its rich tapestry of history and culture. The weather, with its partly cloudy skies and intermittent rain, adds a touch of romance to the cobblestone streets and colonial architecture. Begin your journey with a leisurely stroll through the Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site that stands as a testament to the city’s colonial past. The fort’s ramparts offer a panoramic view of the Indian Ocean, where the waves crash against the ancient walls, creating a symphony of nature’s music.
The fort is a living museum, with its narrow alleys lined with quaint cafes, art galleries, and boutique shops. As you wander through the streets, the aroma of freshly brewed Ceylon tea wafts through the air, inviting you to pause and savor a cup. The fort’s lighthouse, standing tall against the backdrop of the setting sun, is a sight to behold. As the day turns to dusk, the fort comes alive with the sound of traditional music and dance, offering a glimpse into the vibrant culture of Sri Lanka.
A Journey Through Nature
For those seeking a deeper connection with nature, a visit to the Udawalawe National Park is a must. Known for its thriving population of Asian elephants, the park offers a unique opportunity to witness these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. The Elephant Safari is available from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, allowing you to plan your day around this unforgettable experience. As you embark on a safari through the park, the lush greenery and diverse wildlife create a serene backdrop for your adventure.
The park is not only home to elephants but also a haven for birdwatchers, with a plethora of avian species gracing the skies. As you traverse the park’s rugged terrain, the gentle rustle of leaves and the distant call of exotic birds create a symphony of sounds that transport you to a world untouched by time. After a morning spent exploring the park, indulge in a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, where the flavors of Sri Lanka come alive on your palate.
An unforgettable experience - we booked this tour after seeing many good reviews. They contacted us via WhatsApp right after I made the booking. Udawalawe itself is very interesting. We saw a lot of wildlife. This park is very nice and not overly crowded. Hope this remains in the future. Please keep up the good work helping wild animals. Cheers. (Reviewed at: 2020-02-17)
Celebrating New Year’s Eve with a Scenic Train Journey
As the final day of the year approaches, embark on a Scenic Train Journey through Sri Lanka’s hill country. Departing early in the morning, this journey takes you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes the island has to offer. The train winds its way through lush tea plantations, mist-covered mountains, and charming villages, offering a glimpse into the heart of Sri Lanka’s natural beauty.
The highlight of the journey is the iconic Nine Arch Bridge, a marvel of colonial-era engineering that stands as a testament to the ingenuity of the past. As the train crosses the bridge, the view of the surrounding hills and dense jungle is nothing short of spectacular. The journey also includes a visit to a tea factory, where you can learn about the art of tea production and sample some of the finest Ceylon tea.
Brilliant trip to Ella - Brilliant tour even though it was an early start. Climbing up Little Adam’s Peak before it got busy and too hot. Amazing views. Walking down the train tracks to the Nine Arch Bridge and then taking the train to ride over it was a great experience. Overall the trip was very well planned and our driver kept looking after us making sure we got on and off the train safely with no issues. Lunch was also included. Would highly recommend the trip and Bentota Travel Mart. (Reviewed at: 2024-09-30)
