Setting Sail from Gansbaai

As a wildlife photographer with a deep-seated love for Africa, I am always on the lookout for experiences that bring me closer to the continent’s majestic creatures. This year, my journey led me to the charming coastal town of Gansbaai, renowned for its rich marine life and breathtaking whale watching opportunities. The promise of witnessing Southern right whales in their natural habitat was too enticing to resist.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by the warm and welcoming Chrissie at the Ivanhoe Sea Safaris office. Her friendly demeanor and a steaming cup of coffee set the tone for what was to be an unforgettable adventure. After a quick briefing and some necessary paperwork, I was introduced to Jurie, our guide for the day. His infectious humor and passion for marine life were immediately apparent, and I knew we were in for a treat.

Into the Whale Playground

With Johan, our experienced skipper, at the helm, we set off from the harbor, the salty sea breeze invigorating our senses.
