The Garni Pagan Temple, a stunning example of ancient Hellenistic architecture, was erected by Armenian King Tirdates I in the 1st century AD. It was here where the Armenian sun god Mihr was venerated two millennia ago.
The next stop is the Geghard Monastery, recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site. The complex is partially hewn into a colossal basalt rock. The moniker ‘Geghard’ translates from ancient Armenian to mean ‘spear’. The storied spear that pierced Jesus Christ was stored here for 500 years.
Stopover at the 9th century Sevanavank Monastery situated atop a cliff on the Sevan peninsula. Prior to the early 20th century, the location used to be an island.
