Highlights
  • Garve - Our first stop of the day is a quintessential Highland scene! The Black Water cascades down and under the 300 year old Silver Bridge. This is a great photo stop!
  • Corrieshalloch Gorge National Nature Reserve - We stop for a 45 min walk down to the gorge and past beautiful water cascades, Silver Birch and Scots Pine and over the Victorian suspension bridge for some amazing views over the box canyon, as you learn about the area, nature and the man who gifted this special place to the public!
  • Ullapool - Our next stop allows us to look back from where we have travelled from and back up Loch Broom. A glorious view awaits as well as an opportunity to browse some local shops and grab a coffee.
  • Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve - Our 2nd walk of the day allows us to climb this ancient rock for amazing views over Sutherland. Form here, you struggle to see a single house! A fair degree of fitness is required for this walk. Alternatively, you can take the shorter walk, sit and enjoy the views towards the mountains
  • Lochinver - Our lunch stop for the day is in the quaint fishing village of Lochinver. Here you can pick up a pie from the famous Lochinver Larder as we leave to find a quiet picnic spot by an ancient castle
  • Ardvreck Castle - At the foot of Ardvreck Castle, we can enjoy our picnic lunch from Lochinver and explore the ruins while learning about the notorious history of past owners.
  • The Bone Caves - Our main hike of the day (optional) is up the lonely glen, following the pretty crystal clear stream to the Bone caves. Here, we will see springs, learn about what creatures have used these ancient caves and take in the wonderful silence and views. If we are lucky, we may catch a glimpse of a Golden Eagle or Red Deer!

Best Part of My Trip to Scotland - This tour was absolutely the highlight of my 2-week trip to Scotland. The moment I booked it, I knew I would be in for a unique experience! Not too many tourists get up to the northwest highlands, which is a shame since it’s such a beautiful place! I knew I would score extra nerd points for getting to visit the birthplace of plate tectonics! At the beginning of the day, the weather was looking kinda iffy, so Jaime came armed with a Plan B, but I chose to stay with Plan A and the weather gods smiled on us. Jaime was an excellent guide, super knowledgeable about the area and full of interesting tidbits. He’s a very safe driver and made me feel at ease during the whole tour. The sites you visit are spectacular, and I loved that I got to hike around the area instead of just riding around in a car all day. Oh! And the pies you get from Lochinver really are delicious! I highly recommend booking a tour with Jaime as you’ll get to have a truly unique and memorable experience.

The weather didn't cooperate, but we stll had a magical tour! - We had hoped to do the "Untamed Northwest" tour, but the "untamed Scottish weather" meant that we'd see nothing but clouds. No worries! Jamie messaged us with multiple options & we spent a lovely day nearer Inverness learning more about the Picts & Scottish history. This was a highlight of our 12-day Scottish trip & we'll definitely book again on our next visit.

Lovely Day! - My husband and I went on the Northwest Highlands: Private Tour with Hike, and had a fabulous time! Jamie was incredibly knowledgable about the land and its history, and was super friendly and easy to talk to. The tour was a thoughtful, beautiful mix of points of interest that felt very much off the beaten path. Lunch was delicious. The hike was A++. Jamie was also quick to respond to our many questions leading up to the day, which was greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jamie!
