Professionally managed company with excellent guides in a beautiful place! - We booked 3 tours in 3 days, from easy to moderate, and were not disappointed. This company is super professional, enthusiastic, responsive, friendly, informative, fun. We arrived just days after Hurricane Helene devastated parts of eastern TN and western NC and AWITW was all over it. They continually tracked the condition of roads and trails throughout the region and proactively emailed to change one of our itineraries because of flooding. They are focused on keeping you safe. We really enjoyed our two guides, Kels and Deb, and learned so much from them. Great Smoky Mountain National Park is large and very heavily traveled. Though millions go there yearly, only a fraction of the those hike, resulting in a huge number of cars trying to drive and park. Hiring these guys takes all the hassle out of it. Highly recommended!

Great way to learn how the Great Smoky Mountains became a National park - We took this tour with Ken on October 8 & had a great time. After meeting at the Sugarlands Visitors Center we made a short drive to the trailhead & then started our walk along the Little River. Ken was extremely knowledgeable about the trail & the park so we learnt a lot. Granted we could have done the hike on our own, but we wouldn’t have known the park history at all. Well worth doing to learn how the Great Smoky Mountains became a National park.

Time to see some Color - Excellent guide, Ken. Lived in the area. Knew the history of the park and gave us good recommendations for local hiking. Highly recommend Ken if you take this excursion.

Great hike! - Great hike, perfect trail, very peaceful. We had a couple options for the trail and we are glad we chose the one less travelled! Our guide, Charles, was very informative and knowledgeable. Would book again with A Walk in the Woods.

A Walk In the Woods #1 - This was such a great hike through “A Walk In the Woods.” Our guide Sam chose a perfect trail with an assortment of colors, she enlightened us with valuable context and facts about the park’s history, vegetation, and wildlife.

You could do this without the guide - Beautiful views! This tour was a little misleading- so here’s what you can expect: We met at the visitors center, only to follow our guide by car for an hour??? Why didn’t they have a van for everyone to ride together? Then there were 4 elderly women on our hike. This is a 2 mile down the mountain and then 2miles back up and a pretty challenging walk back up. We started at 10:00 and it was 40* very chilly. It took just under 4 hours for the hike and add 2 hours drive time. Our guide was a little new and did not have a whole lot of information to share. She provided snacks at the destination and that was nice. You could drive to Clingmans Dome and walk the trail without a guide and save $$$

Buyers beware! Read completely before booking! - This tour is not what we expected. We both needed to drive in our own car following the guide! 230 dollars for this was a real waste of money. You really don’t need a guide to drive to Clingman’s dome. Our guide was a young lady , was really nice. It was too late to cancel the trip.
