Highlights
  • Elkmont Campground - Participants will get hands on guidance from an experienced fly fishing guide. We provide waders, boots, rods, reels, and flies. The guide will assist with all aspects of the trip including fishing site selection, casting basics, and landing and releasing the fish.

Participants will follow the guide from Gatlinburg into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. While many trips will head for the clear waters of the Little River in Elkmont, the actual destination will depend on the participants’ fishing goals (type of trout, desire for more or less hiking to the fishing location) and current water conditions.

Meeting and fishing locations are customized based on your lodging location and current weather conditions. Your guide will call you before the trip to discuss gear sizing and a meeting location. You must provide a phone number when you register.

Additional Information

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is home to some of the best trout fishing in the Southeast. Whether you are a first-timer or a lifelong fly fisher, let Smoky Mountain Guides take you to the best fishing spots in the park.

Once booked, our guide will contact you to arrange the details of your trip. We’ll work with you to plan a four-hour fishing trip based on your fish preference (rainbow, brown, or brook trout) and your hiking preference.

SMG provides all the gear needed for fishing, including rods, flies, line, waders, and boots. Participants should bring a valid fishing license issued by either Tennessee or North Carolina and a Great Smoky Mountains parking pass.

  • GSMNP Parking Pass Required- A parking pass from GSMNP is required for this activity. Details about the parking pass including online purchases can be found at https://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/fees.htm. Consult the National Park Service website for details. Parking pass prices currently start at $5 but some guests may qualify for a free pass or be exempt from the parking pass requirement.
  • TN or NC Fishing License Required - A Tennessee Fishing License can be bought here. This license can be purchased the same day as your fishing trip and can be displayed digitally on your phone as a screenshot. TWRA offers a basic fishing license, which is sufficient for this guided activity, as well as supplements for trout fishing. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park does not require a licensing supplement for trout fishing within the national park, though this may be needed if you intend to use your fishing license outside the national park before or after your tour. Consult the TWRA for other restrictions associated with your fishing license. https://gooutdoorstennessee.com/

Awesome Guided Fly Fishing in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park - This is the perfect way to get your teen unplugged from tech! Our guide, Wes, was awesome. He was extremely knowledgeable about the area and, most importantly, fly fishing. My son, 15, and I booked a half day. We caught a ton of native trout in the national park. Neither of us had ever been fly fishing. Wes was so patient both of us. It’s nice when the guide loves what he does. Best thing is that I got memories that will last a lifetime with my teenage son. Sevier County seems full of tourist trap experiences. This is not one of them. Worth every penny! Thank you Smoky Mountain Guides! I will repeat and most definitely recommend!

An amazing and educational experience in fly fishing with a local guide that knows how to find beautiful trout! - It was such a wonderful first experience in fly fishing. Wes was very knowledgeable and patient and put us onto some beautiful trout. We had no trout fishing experience and Wes offered great instruction and outfitted us for the 4 hour trip. It was obvious that our guide’s goal is to give his customers the best possible experience and education in a beautiful location.

Ask for Wes - Wes was a tremendous help and guide. He expertly chose the best tackle and holes to fish resulting in a productive day. I do a little fly fishing back in PA and will use what I learned there.

Fishing with Wes - What a great experience we had fishing with Wes. He was very informative about the park, and put us on several spots to catch some brook trout. My 9 year old son had an amazing time. Wes really made the day about him and was very patient with a rambunctious boy. Can’t say enough good things about the day, it was awesome. If you ever want to go fishing around the Smoky Mountains I highly recommend booking a trip with Wes.

Awesome time, awesome guide, and learned a whole lot about fly fishing. - I've lived here for years and love to fish, but was raised/learned how to fish in Florida. I had no idea what I was doing trying to catch trout. After spending the day with Wes it's no wonder why I never had much luck in these streams. With instruction from Wes I've never had so much action on my line in these streams in all my time fishing them. It finally took my wife surprising me for my 50th birthday with this trip for this to happen. Why do we put off experiences in life and make excuses? So, yes, now you need to call SMG, ask for Wes and book a trip upstream.
