Izmir - Upon arrival at Izmir airport or Kusadasi/Cesme Port, a guide will greet you with a name sign to assist with your hotel transfer. After receiving your room key, the rest of the day is free to explore Izmir. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in Izmir.

Pergamon - Thyatira - Izmir

Izmir - Following breakfast, the journey begins to Pergamum, now known as Bergama, one of the Seven Churches of Asia. Explore the impressive Acropolis, the world’s steepest theatre, the Asklepion, a renowned medical center of classical times, the Altar of Zeus referred to as the “Throne of Satan” in the book of Revelation, the marble columns of the Temple of Trajan, and the Library, once a rival to the famous Library of Alexandria in Egypt, with over 200,000 volumes. This library inspired the invention of parchment. Visit the Red Basilica (St. John’s Church) before continuing to Thyatira, now Akhisar, another of the Seven Churches of Asia, known for its purple dyes. Explore the remains of a basilica and Roman architectural fragments. Lydia, the seller of purple in Philippi, hailed from Thyatira.

Izmir - Sardis - Philadelphia - Laodicea - Hierapolis

Pamukkale - After breakfast, depart early for Sardis, now Sart, one of the most picturesque areas of the Seven Churches of Asia. Once the capital of the ancient Lydian kingdom in the 6th century BC, it is depicted as a dying church. Visit the great Temple of Artemis and the Temple of Cybele, which became a Byzantine Church. Explore the restored gymnasium and reconstructed Synagogue, and see the last meters of the royal Persian Road from Susa to Sardis, built by Cyrus the Great, and the “golden” river Pactolos. Enjoy lunch en route. Continue to Philadelphia, now Alasehir, another of the Seven Churches of Asia, and the only one not censured. See the remains of a Byzantine basilica built of brick, with a high arch and some 11th-century frescoes. Proceed to the healing city of Hierapolis.

Ephesus - Kusadasi

Kusadasi - Travel to Ephesus to explore the ancient city, including the Basilica of St. John. The Apostle Paul preached to the Ephesians and lived here for three years, and this church received an epistle from him. Tour the spectacular ruins where excavations continue in this once great city, founded in the 10th century BC. Visit the Temple of Artemis, Ephesus ancient sites, and the Virgin Mary. Walk through history along marble streets lined with magnificent public buildings, including the Baths of Scholastica, the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian, and the Theatre. The Temple of Diana of the Ephesians, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, was built here. Visit the Basilica of St. John and The House of Virgin Mary. Overnight in Kusadasi.
