The Elblag Canal, also known as the Elblag-Ostroda Canal, is a 150-year-old waterway in Poland that stretches from Elblag to Ostroda. Spanning over 80 km, it holds the title of the longest navigable canal still operational in Poland. It is also considered one of the most fascinating canals in Europe. The Elblag Canal stands out due to its unique engineering solution for a challenging section where the water level rises by 100 meters. This section, situated between Druzno Lake and Piniewo Lake, covers a distance of about 10 km. The significant height difference made traditional locks impractical, leading to the creation of an innovative system of inclined planes. Here, boats are lifted out of the water, placed on tracks, and transported across dry land.
