Filled in 1984, the reservoir on the Aragvi River covers an area of 12 km², stretches 12 km in length, and has a capacity of 130 MW. The dam stands 101 m high, measures 400 m in size, and holds 520 million cubic meters of water. An underground hydroelectric power station, located 73 m below ground, houses 4 hydro units, each with a capacity of 32,500 kW. It became operational in 1985.
- Ananuri Fortified Castle Ensemble - Ananuri is a fortress situated at the base of the Sheupovari wooded massif on the right bank of the Aragvi River. Following the construction of the dam near the village of Zhinvali, Ananuri now lies on the reservoir’s shore. The earliest records of Ananuri date back to the 14th century. In ancient Persian literature, it is referred to as the fortified city of Kara-Kalkan-Kara, meaning “Fortress of black shields,” named so because its defense was entrusted to the Khevsur people, who typically carried shields. From the late 17th century to the first half of the 18th century (until 1740), Ananuri served as the residence and stronghold of the powerful Aragvi Eristavs feudal clan, whose estates were located in the Aragvi Basin.
- Gudauri - Gudauri is a mountain resort that has flourished in recent years on the southern slopes of the Caucasus Mountains in Georgia. It captivates visitors with its vast opportunities for mountain activities, breathtaking landscapes, and welcoming atmosphere. The resort is known for its versatility, offering skiing options for both beginners and experts. The presence of high, unobstructed mountains makes it a paradise for freeride enthusiasts. Those who conquer their fears and tackle the long, steep slopes will find great enjoyment.
- Stepantsminda - Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) is a mountain village in northern Georgia, nestled in the Terek River gorge at the base of Mkinvartsveri (Kazbek) mountain, at an altitude of 1,750 meters above sea level. It was designated as a settlement in 1966 and has a population of about 2,000 people. The village is home to the two-story house-museum of writer Alexander Kazbegi (1848-1893), which now serves as a local history museum. In front of the house is the writer’s grave and a bust. A monument to the writer stands in the village center. From the mountain top, where the Holy Trinity Church, Gergeti, is located, there is a stunning view of the village.
- Gergeti Trinity Church - The Church of the Holy Trinity (Tsminda Sameba) is a cross-domed church built in the 14th century. It sits high on a mountain at an altitude of 2,170 m at the base of Mkinvartsveri (Kazbek) Mountain (5,047 m), along the Georgian Military Road above the village of Gergeti. The view from the mountain top, where the Holy Trinity Church, Gergeti, is situated, is breathtaking.
