• Penang Hill - Begin your journey with a visit to Penang Hill, where a funicular train will take you to its summit at 833 meters above sea level. From there, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Georgetown and mainland Butterworth. The hill is dotted with colonial bungalows, a testament to the British preference for its cooler climate over the hot and humid city below.
• Reclining Buddha Wat Chaiyamangalaram - Next, explore the Wat Chayamangkalaram Temple, home to the world’s 4th longest Reclining Buddha Statue. Just across the street, you can also visit the Dhammikarama Burmese Temple, which features an 8.2-meter tall standing Buddha statue, the tallest in Malaysia. These temples were established in the early 1800s by the Thai and Burmese communities.
• Fort Cornwallis - Fort Cornwallis, located in George Town, Penang, Malaysia, is a bastion fort built by the British East India Company in the late 18th century. It is the largest standing fort in Malaysia and never saw combat during its operational history.
• Little India - Penang - This vibrant neighborhood is filled with shops and vendors offering Indian clothing, jewelry, and street food.
• Chew Jetty - Chew Jetty, known as Sneah1 Chew1 Kio2 in Penang Hokkien, is the largest of the waterfront settlements in George Town. Established in the mid-19th century, it reflects a very different Penang from today. The last community jetties, Peng Aun and Cap3 Snaeh3 Kio2, were only built in the 1960s. Each clan jetty has a small shrine dedicated to sea deities. Chew Jetty is the only clan jetty that still observes the annual worship of its Temple Deity and the Jade Emperor (Thnee Kong, or “god of the skies”).
