The city of Aphrodisias was once a prosperous metropolis that primarily worshipped the goddess, Aphrodite. The city had many master craftsman, and the city had some of the most beautiful statues and decorations. Due to the quality of the work and a large amount of marble nearby the temple to Aphrodite was once a breathtaking place of worship.

As the city prospered it became a hub for business as well as the fine arts, this led the city has some stunning buildings including its own Odeon theatre (council chamber). Aphrodisias had one of the largest stadiums of the era, that held a variety of entertainments that would have been common for the population to wish to see during the time.

Aphrodisias is a historic city dedicated to the Deity, Aphrodite. This classic city worshipped her ardently, earning its widespread recognition as the city of romance. Its prosperity was largely due to the artistic flair and superior skill of those who took full advantage of the abundance of high-quality marble in close proximity. However, the city fell into disuse following the earthquakes in the 4th and 7th centuries that caused widespread damage and created a new flood area on one part.

Today, the remains of the city narrate its past, and its craftsmanship continues to astonish us. Within the city, several remnants of a thriving cityscape can be found, including its own Odeon (the city’s administrative building), a sports arena, and the sacred temple devoted to Aphrodite.
