outstanding tour - We have used Ashanti Africa before and they are excellent. We have been to Kakum with them; this time it was Ankasa and Nyamebe Bepo. Our guide Philip Senyo is excellent and knows all about birds and butterflies, not to mention his skill in getting a team organized to find a pangolin.

A Birding watching trip to Ghana - Visited from 15th Oct 23 to 31st Oct 23 for a Birdwatching holiday organised by Ashanti. We had an excellent birding guide and driver. I have birded throughout the world and Philip, our guide, was superb, as good as any I have been with. He was punctual, informative, helpful and considerate. He went out of his way to ensure we saw the Nkulengu Rail, which had proved to be rather elusive. We saw nearly all our target birds totalling 366 species for the trip. Philip kept us well provided with fruit and snacks throughout the trip. My wife and I are both 75+ and Philip and our driver Eric made sure we were looked after and carried most of our luggage when needed. Accommodation was variable, though travelling to remote parts of Ghana one does not expect 5 star facilities. The Ashanti lodge at Ankasa was excellent with a comfortable, clean and well lit room plus good air conditioning and bathroom facilities. The accommodation at Kakum, Bonkro and Kumasi was also fine. The first night nr Accra was poor with a very poorly lit room, no hot water and poor food. Mole was a wonderful setting with reasonable food but a below par room with virtually no air conditioning, poor bathroom facilities and very dim lighting. What is it about places that cannot provide adequate lighting? In spite of my comments regarding some of the accommodation overall this was a very good trip and certainly value for money. Finally the ladies in the Ashanti office were very efficient answering e mails immediately, even at weekends! They provided us with all the documentation we needed for visas extra and any question was answered well. Well done Ashanti!

A 15 day birding tour of Ghana - Ours was a 15-day private birding tour. I can't select any one thing, as the entire tour was very special. All nature tours are, in some degree, also cultural, and that was the case for us. I can more easily pick my least favorite- the few times we had to be driving in or near Accra. No complaints about that, though. A necessity if you want to get to where the 'wild things are'. That goodness for the skill of our driver, Prince. Ghana is special. The birding was amazing. A VERY large part of our wonderful Ghana birding experience was due to our amazing guide, Paul Mensah. His vision, his hearing, his vocalization knowledge, his ability to imitate bird sounds-- or to use recorded vocalizations or playback when needed. All very impressive. Another thing I must mention-- how quickly he could get a bird in the scope, even when the target was very nearly directly overhead & the scope was near-vertical. I'll mention our driver again, Prince. He was the other part of the two-some that made for such a great trip. As always, we missed some birds. There had been unusually heavy rains in the drier northern parts of Ghana. Fortunately for us, the rains had already happened, and didn't rain us out on any days. But the rivers were flooded, & the sandbars where the Egyptian Plover is normally found were under several feet of water. So.... we missed the Plover. Other specialties were missed too. That's just part of birding. All in all, I can highly recommend Ashanti. Rosemathilda, with her endless patience and always timely & helpful responses to my many pre-trip emails, deserves a big "thank you" too. Our group of 3 saw 320-330 species, the great majority were lifers.

Great birding and interesting cultural insight. - Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience. Rosematlida - many thanks for your organisational abilities, responsiveness and ability to cope with our last minute and changing plans. Ibrahim, Johnson and Jacob - travelling with you was a real pleasure. I loved the way that you were so keen to help me to understand real life in Ghana. The birding was fabulous - 216 species in 10 days on a relaxed schedule.
