The ancient Ghoufi Canyon, a historical and archaeological treasure, is situated approximately 90 km south of Batna. Constituted of sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, it houses the river Abiod, also referred to as Ighzir Amellal, along its edges. This river nurtures an oasis flourishing with palm groves, orchards, and vegetable gardens. The balconies of Ghoufi are home to cave dwellings, akin to troglodyte homes, etched into the cliff and piled up erratically like sugar cubes. Their existence traces back to over four centuries and they encapsulate a rich heritage as a microcosm of the place. The houses resemble buildings along each balcony that are reminiscent of local villages. The site also includes cliff caves devised into guest rooms by the French, adding a unique touch to the hotel services offered. This excursion will uncover the diverse offerings that the Ghoufi Canyon possesses.
