Highlights
  • Wolf’s Lair - In the heart of Masuria on the North of Poland, in the deep forest, there are ruins of what used to be Adolf Hitler’s headquarters. Built in Gierloz in 1940-44, it attracts tourists with its dark atmosphere and a warning closed in the walls of the damaged buildings. Hitler named it ‘Wolf’s Lair’ as a reference to his pseudonym ‘Her Wolf’, which he used to sign articles in the 1920’s.
Hitler’s Headquarters, like most war locations, was very well camouflaged. The town hidden in the forest consists of 200 buildings in total: shelters, barracks, 2 airports, a power plant, a railway station, air-conditioning equipment, water supply, heating plant and two teletype panels.
In 1944, more than 2,000 people lived there. Hitler himself spent over 800 days in the Wolf’s Lair. On July 20, 1944, Colonel Count Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg made an unsuccessful attempt on Adolf Hitler’s life. Hitler survived the explosion and brutally dealt with his opponents.

Wolf’s Lair is not only the bunkers; it’s a place where crimes against humanity were planned.
Here, it was decided to build new concentration camps, use prisoners in the German arms industry and take away the lives of hundreds of people from European nations.

There were plans to enlarge the complex, but the works were never completed due to the rapid advance of the Red Army during the Baltic Offensive in the autumn of 1944. On January 25, 1945, the Wolf’s Lair was blown up and abandoned 48 hours before the Soviet army arrived.

Visiting this one-in-a-kind place is a truly remarkable experience and allows you to learn more about the history of World War II and Hitler’s philosophy. The atmosphere of war is still floated in the air of the ruins, and the whole complex is a perfect example of Hitler’s megalomania and his entourage.

Additional Information

Considering a trip to Warsaw with an interest in visiting the Wolf’s Lair? We have the ideal solution for you! A private chauffeur will fetch you from your specified Warsaw location in a luxury Mercedes vehicle, fitted for 1 to 6 passengers. You will be driven to the Wolf’s Lair for a comprehensive day-long tour.

The Lair served as Adolf Hitler’s primary military command post on the Eastern Front during World War II. The establishment turned into one among many Fuhrer Headquarters scattered across Europe under Nazi occupation. It was specifically built for the commencement of Operation Barbarossa, which instigated the Soviet invasion in 1941, courtesy of the Organisation Todt. Nestled deep within the Masurian forests, the ultra-secret, high-security area is about 8km away from the petite East Prussian town of Rastenburg (Kętrzyn). The Führer’s bunker, located in the heart of the complex, was safeguarded by three security zones. Despite stringent protection, the most infamous assassination bid against Hitler took place at the Wolf’s Lair on 20 July 1944.

Fantastic Tour of Wolf’s Lair and Mamerki Bunkers - The main your companies in Warsaw were sold out for Wolf’s Lair tours for the day I wanted to visit. Fortunately, VIP car service also offers such tours. Within minutes of my What’s App they responded positively and confirmed they could arrange an English speaking guide and that they would be happy to add the nearby Mamerki Bunkers (which weren’t dynamited by the Germans to stop the Soviets from using them) to my tour. I paid a small deposit by credit card and was given the opportunity of paying the rest in cash in a number of different currencies. It was quick and easy. I confirmed my tour the day before and they sent me the name and mobile number of my driver. He was waiting for me in the lobby of my hotel with an IPAD with my name on it. Very professional. The car was a swish black limo. Very comfy for the four hour drive each way. They provided two bottles of water and a phone charger with numerous adaptors for different phones. Jack drove exceptionally well despite the long day. I had five hours on site. (Lunch is quite good in the restaurant on site. They did have a vegetarian option.) The guide they arranged for me, Jadwiga Korowaj, was terrific! Good English and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend her. At no point did either the driver or guide hurry me along. In fact, Jadwiga arranged for another guide to cover a later tour she had when we ran late due to construction activity on the road to Mamerki I’m already planning a return trip and spending the night at the Wolf’s Lair Hotel ( Jadwiga arranged for me to see a room and it’s simple but clean and quiet for one night). I’m very impressed with VIP tours and will be using them again.

Wolfs Lair rocks! - We took a city tour with them and have to say that our driver was a legend! Gieno told us about this bunker hidden in the forest one of the Hitlers Headquoters called Wolf's Lair. He got us with it so we book it! We're all very into WWII history and that was a perfect choice to do. It's a great experience to do it. The way to it's around 4h one way. The tour was perfect. We were very lucky and were the only group there! Even if it was beginning of it was a great thing to do. The way on return was very fast and we stop each time we need it. The tour was simply amazing! Cheers Genio, we had a great time!

They rock :) - Amazing trip to Wolfs Lair I Loved it!!! What else can I say!?! Professional and sympathetic contact with the office that booked this tour for us. We have visited Wolfs Lair as it was recommended to us to do it. It's located on the North-East side of Poland. the area is very green so the way to it is very relaxing. I love their luxury car, the driver was very helpful and professional. So much better than a standard coach trip! We learnt a lot from our wonderful tour guide, who spoke perfect English. If you are considering booking this trip, my advice would be "do it!" You won't be disappointed!
