Additional Information

Do you want to know what whaling was like in the Cantabrian Sea? What was the work of the Asturian fishermen at sea or the work of the sardiners? Join us on this tour of the cultural memory of the port of Xixón and the fishing district of Cimavilla.

Our itinerary will begin at Casa Paquet and then head to the headquarters of the old seafarers’ guild, which would turn Xixón into an important whaling port.

Inshore fishing and the canning industry will occupy our attention in the vicinity of the old rula (the fish market), to also talk about the charismatic sardine farms. We will continue our itinerary walking through the streets of the fishing neighborhood of Cimavilla, remembering real people such as La Tarabica, Telvina, Rambal, and we will navigate through their life and work stories.

The activity includes entry to the Jovellanos Birthplace, whose works are related to the sea and the men and women who forged the character of Barriu Altu.
